The first piece of silverware of the season is up for grabs on Sunday 9 February as Swansea City take on The New Saints in the Genero Adran Trophy final at Latham Park in Newtown (KO 17:30). <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The season so far<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After appointing Jamie Sherwood as manager in the summer, Swansea City started the campaign strongly as they took 10 points from the first 12 available in the Genero Adran Premier \u2013 including a 1-0 win over reigning champions Cardiff City at the Swansea.com Stadium. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the last couple of months have proved tricky. The Swans have won just one of their last five league games, leaving them fourth in the table \u2013 10 points adrift of top spot \u2013 and needing to avoid defeat against Wrexham in the final game of Phase One to secure a top half place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

TNS also changed manager last summer, appointing Shauna Duffy as they became the latest club to adopt a semi-professional model. The rewards have been impressive, with the Saints being exciting to watch and emerging as title contenders after finishing fifth last season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Duffy\u2019s team were top of the Genero Adran Premier table at Christmas but have suffered a recent dip in form. Just one point from their last three matches leaves them in third place and seven adrift of current leaders Cardiff City. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Road to the final<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After easing past second tier sides Llanfair United in the round of 16 and Cascade in the quarter-finals with 4-0 and 5-0 wins respectively, Swansea City travelled to Wrexham in the last four. Jamie Sherwood\u2019s side were 3-2 winners at The Rock, holding on to book their spot in the final after the hosts scored in stoppage time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

TNS were the biggest winners in the round of 16 as they triumphed 6-1 away at Caldicot Town, before they stunned holders Cardiff City by beating the Bluebirds 1-0 in the quarter-finals at Park Hall. In the semi-finals, the Saints trailed 2-0 after 81 minutes against Briton Ferry Llansawel, but staged a remarkable late comeback and scored three goals to reach the final in dramatic style. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Genero Adran Trophy record<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Swansea City have won this competition on two previous occasions, most recently in 2021, but not since it has rebranded as the Genero Adran Trophy. This is their second consecutive final after they led 1-0 at half-time against Cardiff City in last season\u2019s showpiece before going on to lose 5-1. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After losing in the semi-finals in each of the previous three seasons, The New Saints have finally reached the Genero Adran Trophy final for the first time. Now on their agenda is a first trophy of any kind since joining the Welsh system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Head-to-head<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before this season, Swansea City and TNS had met on nine previous occasions and the Swans had won eight of them \u2013 including a 5-1 triumph in the Genero Adran Trophy semi-final last season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the Saints have turned the tide so far in 2024\/25. Shauna Duffy\u2019s side have won both Phase One meetings between the teams in the Genero Adran Premier, triumphing 5-0 at Llandarcy in October before scoring a 91st<\/sup>-minute winner to win 1-0 at Park Hall in December. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Players to watch<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stacey John-Davis \u2013 Swansea City<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There will be few players more determined to end Swansea City\u2019s trophy drought than John-Davis, who netted twice in the final when they last won this competition in 2021. The 32-year-old continues to be a reliable goalscorer for her side, bagging a hat-trick in the quarter-final win over Cascade before also finding the net against Wrexham in the semis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chantelle Teare \u2013 The New Saints<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Swansea should know all about the danger of Teare after she scored a hat-trick against them in TNS\u2019 5-0 win at Llandarcy in October. That was one of multiple standout performances this season for the 23-year-old, who also scored the dramatic 92nd<\/sup>-minute winner against Briton Ferry to book her side\u2019s spot in this final. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Managers\u2019 thoughts<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jamie Sherwood, Swansea City: \u201cIt\u2019s our job to go out and give everything in this cup final to make sure we come away with silverware. Hopefully, it\u2019ll be the first piece of the jigsaw that we\u2019re trying to put together here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
