Cardiff City won the Genero Adran U19 national final for the third time in four years after beating Wrexham on penalties at Latham Park. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bluebirds triumphed 5-1 and 2-0 respectively over the Red Dragons in the two previous finals between the sides, but this was a much closer contest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indeed, it was Wrexham who took the lead after just four minutes played when Anna Owen was played through on goal and she coolly slotted past Grace Olsen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gareth Owen’s side held the advantage for over an hour, but Cardiff equalised in the 66th minute when substitute Scarlett Baker-Perry – who had only been on the pitch for seven minutes – cut inside from the left and curled a superb strike into the top corner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With neither side able to find a winning goal, the contest headed for penalties in the evening sun in mid Wales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgina Bull scored first for Cardiff before Wrexham’s Sienna Perry blazed over, but Bluebirds goalscorer Baker-Perry also hit her effort too high to allow Maizie Johnson to make it 1-1 after two spot-kicks each. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cardiff pair Lucy Malin and Mali Ackerman netted either side of Wrexham’s Seren Cashen, but Bluebirds goalkeeper Grace Olsen then saved Grace Morris’ effort to put the south Walians on the brink. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was Olsen herself who stepped up to take Cardiff’s fifth penalty and she fired home to seal national glory for Tom Stiley’s team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
