1 year on: Welshpool Town Football Club

In September 2023, Welshpool Town Football Club were recipients of a Cymru Football Foundation grant through our Fit-For-Future Facilities Programme.

Thanks to support from U.K Government, the club received a grant of £65,000 to create three brand-new junior grass pitches at the Wayne Evans Playing Fields.

After losing their previous junior pitches to a school build in 2018, Welshpool Town were left with half of their previous pitch access and struggling to cope with the demand of playing and training opportunities for their senior and junior teams – which led to two of their teams having to fold.

Since the new pitches were unveiled last year, Welshpool have seen their junior section thrive and will now have representation from U6 to U16 boys and girls teams for the 2024/25 season.

The new pitches will also host the FAW’s McDonald’s Fun Football Programme alongside other initiatives.

“The new pitches have greatly enhanced the training and playing facilities for the club, not just the juniors but also for our men’s and women’s teams too.

“It’s a joy to see all the club’s players enjoying training and playing – we’re grateful to all of the funders for their contribution to this facility.” – Chris Roberts, Chair at Welshpool Town Football Club.
