Cymru Football Foundation has unveiled our latest Fit-For-Future facility at Afon T\u00e2f High School in Merthyr.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opened by Cymru legend Danny Gabbidon, the CFF \u2013 backed by the Department of Media, Culture and Sport\u2019s Multi-Sport Grassroots Facility Programme \u2013 has invested almost half a million pounds into the creation of a brand-new full-sized 3G in collaboration with Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council, the UK Government\u2019s Shared Prosperity Fund and Sport Wales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This new facility will provide easy access for pupils of Afon Taf High School during the day, whilst also providing opportunities for male and female football to thrive out of school hours in a huge boost for the local area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It takes the total of new or upgraded full-size 3Gs invested in by the CFF to 16 with further investment already planned for several sites across Wales.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the opening of the facility, former Cymru defender Gabbidon said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Facilities like these are vital for communities across Wales – seeing and hearing how this new 3G will benefit the school and local community is so refreshing and will serve for years to come. The Cymru Football Foundation is doing amazing work and long may it continue.” <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Councillor Brent Carter, Leader of Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTwo of our Council priorities are to enhance our recreational spaces and develop key sports pitches.  The development of the Afon Taf 3G not only helps meet the needs of the local community but is also the cornerstone facility of what is now a fantastic multi-purpose provision, that can cater for a range of sports and users alike.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Director at the Cymru Football Foundation, Aled Lewis said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Cymru Football Foundation is committed to investing in facilities that inspire communities. This new facility in Merthyr will enable more players to play, improve the experiences of current players and act as a hub for sport in the local community.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA huge thank you to our partners, UK Government and both Merthyr Tydfil CBC and Sport Wales in supporting the development of such a high-quality facility. Through the power of collaboration, we\u2019re making huge strides in improving football facilities in Wales on and off the pitch.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CFF supports the development of football through investment and guidance as it delivers the Football Association of Wales\u2019 commitment to develop inspirational fit-for-future football facilities that will improve and grow Welsh football both on and off the pitch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since February 2022, the CFF has invested over \u00a317 million into supporting fit-for-future facilities across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our expression of interest window for facility funding is open for clubs, local authorities and charitable organisations to apply for grants of up to \u00a3500,000 towards capital investments to develop fit-for-future facilities across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
