The New Saints goalkeeper Connor Roberts hopes success in this year\u2019s Nathaniel MG Cup final can launch the start of a treble-winning campaign for the club.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 32-year-old has won plenty of titles during his time as a Saint, but he still has a burning desire to add more silverware to his trophy-laden time at Park Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe aim of TNS is always to win trophies, so domestic competitions are a must,” the goalkeeper said. \u201cWe’ve lost out on the treble a couple of times, and we’ll be doing what we can to win our first trophy of the season,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the Saints\u2019 domestic dominance, Roberts’ success in the Nathaniel MG Cup has surprisingly been somewhat limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A series of upsets have stalled TNS\u2019s progress in recent season, meaning Roberts had to wait until last season\u2019s 5-1 triumph over Swansea City to lift the trophy for the first time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe got knocked out by Connah’s Quay on penalties one year, we got beat by Cambrian in the semi-final in another season and one year, we played Penrhyncoch with a very young team in between European games.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roberts is well-acquainted with this year\u2019s final opponents Aberystwyth Town however, having switched Park Hall for Park Avenue to play for the Green and Blacks in two separate loan spells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now with Antonio Corbisiero back at the helm, Roberts has \u2018fond memories\u2019 of his time at Aber and admits his former club are more than capable of causing a cup upset despite their JD Cymru Premier struggles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have really fond memories of my times with Aber. Every time I arrived, we had something to fight for, so every point we got was really important. The club was full of amazing people and in terms of memories, every game was a good experience,\u201d he said, before playing down the possibility of TNS taking underdogs Aberystwyth lightly in Friday\u2019s finale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnything can happen in finals, I\u2019m very fond of Corbs, he\u2019s actually a very good friend of mine, and I know Aber will be very well prepared so I think it\u2019ll be a tough game actually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBecause of the size of our squad that brings competitiveness within itself, so we know Aber will give it everything and we won\u2019t be going into it complacent.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
