Inclusive Language Guide<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Language plays an important role in shaping attitudes, influencing how we perceive ourselves and others, and helping to create the culture of football. The words we use can demonstrate respect, build connections and create a sense of belonging. However, language can also reinforce stereotypes, perpetuate prejudice and cause harm, whether intentional or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The FAW is committed to creating a welcoming, safe and inclusive football environment where everyone has the opportunity to participate, contribute and feel that they belong. This Inclusive Language Guide supports that commitment by helping everyone involved in Welsh football understand inclusive language, recognise discriminatory or potentially harmful terminology, and communicate respectfully with people from different backgrounds, identities and experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The guide provides practical examples of inclusive terminology, language to avoid and the reasons why certain words or phrases can be harmful. It is intended to support learning, encourage reflection and help people feel more confident in challenging discriminatory language when it occurs. Language and terminology continue to evolve, and individual preferences can differ, so the guide should be used to encourage understanding and respectful conversations rather than as an exhaustive list of acceptable and unacceptable words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everyone has a responsibility to challenge and report discrimination in football, regardless of intent. If you witness or experience discriminatory language or behaviour, please refer to the Challenging Discrimination in Football Guide for Clubs<\/a> for further guidance on recognising, responding to and reporting incidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
