Cardiff City continued to set the pace at the top of the Genero Adran Premier table with a comfortable 4-1 victory at home to Wrexham on Sunday.
Laura Curnock opened the scoring for the Bluebirds on 29 minutes with a sweet strike from the right hand side, before Ffion Price doubled the lead six minutes later with a calmly converted penalty after Mikayla Cook was fouled in the box.
Cook then got on the scoresheet herself early in the second half, sending a fierce effort into the back of the net from a tight angle for her first goal of the season – her previous also coming against Wrexham in April.
Ava Suckley gave the visitors a glimmer of hope when she headed home from Mari Gibbard’s corner with 20 minutes remaining before Liv Fuller struck the crossbar, but Cardiff wrapped up victory in stoppage time as Lily Billingham raced in behind the Wrexham defence and slotted home.
The New Saints remain just two points behind the league leaders following their narrow 2-1 win at bottom-of-the-table Cardiff Met.
17-year-old Olivia Buckland put the Saints ahead four minutes before half-time with her first league goal for the club, as she intercepted a wayward pass in a dangerous area and showed composure to slot home past Charlotte Smith.
It was a moment of magic from Helen Evans which doubled the Saints’ lead on 67 minutes, the midfielder picking out the top corner with a stunning free-kick from 35 yards out.
Faith Mulenga’s effort from the left hand side looped over Rebecca Elliott to give Met a lifeline with 15 minutes remaining, but the Saints held on to extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to nine matches.
Third-place Swansea City returned to winning ways with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Aberystwyth Town at Llandarcy.
The Swans took just seven minutes to break the deadlock as Jess Williams nodded the ball down for Nia Jones to smash home from close range for her first goal for the club.
Williams again proved decisive in the air 11 minutes later as she headed in from Emily Richards’ corner to double the advantage.
Rebecca Mathias’ cross looped over Charlotte Haynes in the Swans to goal to get Aber back in the game on the half hour mark, but Stacey John-Davis played in Aimee Deacon to clinch the victory for Jamie Sherwood’s side midway through the second half.
The Swans are now unbeaten in six matches in all competitions and five points behind leaders Cardiff City with a game in hand, while Aber are still without a league win to their name this season.
Sunday’s early kick-off saw Barry Town United and Briton Ferry Llansawel share the points in a goalless draw at Jenner Park.
Ferry had the better chances throughout the match with Alison Witts’ free-kick flying narrowly over the crossbar and Megan Kearle’s cross causing a goalmouth scramble which saw the hosts put bodies on the line in order to protect their clean sheet.
Barry remain one point above Ferry in fourth place, however the Reds still have two games in hand.
