Genero Adran Premier preview: Wrexham host Cardiff City in potential title decider

An all important penultimate Sunday awaits in the Genero Adran Premier, including a potential title decider at the Racecourse. Here is a preview of the weekend action.

Wrexham vs Cardiff City (Sunday, 5:10pm)

Wrexham will become Genero Adran Premier champions for the first time if they beat title rivals Cardiff City at the STōk Cae Ras on Sunday, live on Sgorio.

Wrexham moved two points clear at the top of the table with a convincing 7-1 win over Swansea City on Wednesday as the Red Dragons secured their sixth consecutive league win. A brace for Katie Barker in that match means she is the first player ever in the Genero Adran Premier (since the top-flight restructure in 2021) to reach the 20-goal mark in a single campaign.

Cardiff have kept their hopes of a fourth consecutive league title alive with back-to-back 2-1 wins over Swansea in March so far. A win for the Bluebirds on Sunday would take them a point clear of Wrexham at the summit before Iain Darbyshire’s side host The New Saints on the final day.

Wrexham vs Cardiff City

This will be the sixth clash between Wrexham and Cardiff this season and all six have failed to disappoint.

Fiona Barry scored late goals in a 1-1 draw and 2-1 win for Cardiff in both Phase One meetings before Wrexham won on penalties to lift the Genero Adran Trophy and triumphed 3-1 at the Cardiff City Stadium in Phase Two’s reverse fixture. However, Cardiff have earned the most recent victory between the two sides with a 2-1 win in the Bute Energy Welsh Cup semi-finals at the beginning of March.

Swansea City vs The New Saints (Sunday, 2pm)

Swansea City return to the Swansea.com Stadium for the fourth time this season as they host The New Saints in the other Championship Conference fixture.

Swansea will be hoping this special occasion can help provide a turnaround in form, with Wednesday’s heavy 7-1 defeat to Wrexham meaning the club have now lost three consecutive league games for the first time since the top-flight’s restructure.

The Swans will also be looking to build momentum ahead of their first Bute Energy Welsh Cup final since 2018, where Yzzy Taylor’s side face rivals Cardiff City at Rodney Parade next month.

Aimee Deacon and Taite Trivett had five goal involvements combined in the Bute Energy Welsh Cup semi-final

TNS are also hoping to end a losing streak of their own having tasted defeat in all four matches in Phase Two so far. Kieran Lee-Birch’s side were beaten 1-0 by Wrexham on home turf last weekend and Saints are now looking to avoid five straight league losses for the first time ever in the Genero Adran Premier.

Swansea have won all three league matches against TNS this season with 2-1 and 3-0 victories in Phase One before a four-goal haul from Chloe Chivers inspired a 5-2 win at the beginning of March.

Barry Town United vs Briton Ferry Llansawel (Sunday, 2pm)

Barry Town United and Briton Ferry Llansawel are separated by just one point at the top of the Plate Conference ahead of their meeting at Jenner Park.

Ferry currently lead the Plate Conference and remain unbeaten in Phase Two so far, but dropped points in a 1-1 draw at home against Aberystwyth Town allowed Barry to close the gap to just one point with a 3-0 win over Pontypridd United.

Barry Town will hope to secure victory at the fourth attempt against Briton Ferry Llansawel this season

Barry are also unbeaten from their first four games in Phase Two and the Linnets ran out comfortable 3-0 winners against Pontypridd United last time out for their third clean sheet in four games.

Ferry won 4-1 and 3-0 in both Phase One meetings before also claiming a 2-0 victory in the Genero Adran Trophy quarter-finals. Both teams shared the points in a 1-1 draw in the reverse Phase Two fixture as Barry forward Erin Murray converted a late penalty to cancel out an opener from Ferry’s Maia Owen, who has scored on three different occasions across the four fixtures.

Aberystwyth Town vs Pontypridd United (Sunday, 2pm)

Aberystwyth Town will achieve their highest Genero Adran Premier points tally since the 2022/23 season if they beat already-relegated Pontypridd United at Park Avenue.

Aberystwyth have picked up four points in Phase Two so far and earned a 1-1 draw away to Briton Ferry Llansawel thanks to Libby Isaac’s late equaliser last weekend.

Libby Isaac also scored in the Phase One fixture between the two sides

Bottom-of-the-table Pontypridd were beaten 3-0 by Barry Town United last weekend. The Dragons will continue to fight for their first point of the campaign despite their relegation to the second tier already being confirmed.

Aber have secured 2-0 and 2-1 victories over Ponty in Phase One before earning a 5-0 win earlier this month for their biggest ever Genero Adran Premier triumph.
