Genero Adran Premier round-up | Cardiff City win top of the table thriller against TNS

Cardiff City moved five points clear at the top of the Genero Adran Premier table after triumphing 4-3 over title rivals The New Saints in an extraordinary game at Park Hall on Sunday.

The Saints, who beat the Bluebirds in the Genero Adran Trophy last month, took the lead inside just two minutes when Chantelle Teare picked out the top corner with a stunning strike from range.

Fiona Barry equalised 10 minutes later as she fired home a loose ball in the box, but TNS were back in front in the 20th minute as Lia Lewis scored from the penalty spot after Teare had been fouled in the box by Lisa Owen.

Cardiff were level again on the half hour mark when Mikayla Cook looped a shot over Rebecca Elliott, before TNS went into the break with a 3-2 lead as Grace Dunkerley capitalised on Owen’s defensive error and poked the ball past the onrushing Ceryn Chamberlain.

The scoring continued just four minutes into the second half when Laura Curnock headed in Ffion Price’s corner to make three apiece.

The Bluebirds’ winning goal arrived in the 67th minute when Cook, who was sent off at Park Hall last month, emerged as the hero this time around as the ball rolled out to her on the edge of the box and she sent a sweet strike into the bottom corner.

It was TNS’ first home defeat of the season and leaves them five points behind Cardiff in the table but with a game in hand.

Swansea City produced an emphatic second half performance to win 4-0 away to Aberystwyth Town at Park Avenue.

The Swans were in control for the majority of the first half, but had to wait 63 minutes for their opening goal as Emily Thomas’ strike from a tight angle flew over Chelsea Herbert and into the far corner.

Jamie Sherwood’s side then scored three goals in the final 15 minutes and stoppage time, all courtesy of substitutes.

Chloe Chivers bagged her first league goal of the season in some style as she fired home from long range to double the lead, just three minutes before Aimee Deacon made it three with a close-range finish from Stacey John-Davis’ cross.

Taite Trivett wrapped up an impressive display from the Swans in the eighth minute of stoppage time as she picked up the ball in her own half and raced through on goal before slotting past Herbert.

Cardiff Met earned only their second point of the season in a 1-1 draw with Wrexham at Cyncoed Campus.

The Archers had the lead at half-time after defender Natalie Clark turned Samantha Dziminowicz’s free-kick into her own net in the 32nd minute.

Wrexham came out in pursuit of an equaliser after the break and finally levelled the contest in the 68th minute when Clark set up Brooke Cairns, who turned and finished beyond Charlotte Smith.

Met are now three points adrift of safety at the bottom of the table, while Wrexham’s top four chances are looking bleak as the end of Phase One approaches.
