Genero Adran Premier | Weekend Preview

Bute Energy Welsh Cup finalists Wrexham and Cardiff City meet at The Rock in the Genero Adran Premier on Sunday afternoon.

The Bluebirds began phase two with a comfortable 3-0 win over Aberystwyth Town last weekend to maintain their five-point lead at the top of the table.

In contrast, third-place Wrexham returned to league action with a 3-2 defeat away at Swansea City, meaning they now sit six points behind the second-place Swans.

Cardiff have had the upper hand on Wrexham this season as a 3-1 win in the Genero Adran Trophy quarter-finals came in between a pair of 3-0 victories in phase one of the Genero Adran Premier.

Swansea City will continue their pursuit of Cardiff City at the top of the table as they welcome Aberystwyth Town to Llandarcy.

Chris Church’s side have picked up 22 points from the last 24 available, as they attempt to prevent the Bluebirds from picking up back-to-back titles.

However, the only points they have dropped in that time came in a 1-1 draw when Aberystwyth visited Llandarcy at the start of last month. That followed a 4-0 win for the Swans at Park Avenue earlier in phase one.

Aber are no doubt the underdogs in the Genero Adran Premier top half and their phase two task was made clear in a 3-0 defeat to Cardiff City last weekend.

Pontypridd United must beat Cardiff Met at USW Sport Park this weekend if they are to avoid relegation from the top-flight.

The Dragons battled to a 1-1 draw against Barry Town United last weekend, but they are still without a league win to their name this season and sit 13 points adrift of safety.

Esme Kilburn-Thompson’s hat-trick steered Cardiff Met to a stunning 4-1 home win over The New Saints last weekend, which ended their five-game winless streak in the league. The Archers could potentially go top of the Plate Conference with another victory this weekend.

Both phase one matches between these sides were tight affairs, but it was Met who prevailed on both occasions with 1-0 victories.

After their defeat at Cyncoed Campus last weekend, The New Saints are back in south Wales for the second consecutive Sunday as they travel to Barry Town United.

Greg Draper’s side are winless in their last six league matches and could lose their spot at the top of the Plate Conference if that streak extends even further at Jenner Park.

Barry certainly have ambitions of claiming the Plate and are the in-form team in the bottom half, having picked up 10 points from the last 15 available.

Emily Ridge’s hat-trick and two penalties from Beth Lewis gave TNS a 5-0 victory over Barry in October, but the Linnets got revenge by storming to a 4-1 win in January.
