Taffs Well ‘buzzing’ ahead of debut Genero Adran South season

Taffs Well will be making their Genero Adran South debut this season, and it’s a moment many at the club never thought would happen.

Plenty in the squad, including Georgia Brown, had been part of the Cardiff Wanderers banner before moving over to Taffs Well three years ago, steadily climbing up the third tier table before earning promotion this summer.

After the Wellwomen finished second in the SWWGL Women Combination Premier in 2024/25, Caldicot Town’s withdrawal from the Genero Adran South opened up a vacancy in the second tier which was awarded to Brown and co.

“We’re absolutely buzzing to be in the Adran South,” Brown says. “For a while it didn’t really sink in that we went up. Carmarthen Town went up because they had won the league, and rightly so because they were fantastic, but we were holding on to that tiny bit of hope that something might happen.

“We finished level on points with them and only missed out on the title because of goal difference, but it almost feels too good to be true that we’re actually here. We’re all so excited. It feels like a lot of hard work and commitment has gone into this moment.”

Taffs Well are optimistic about their chances in the Genero Adran South this season

Promotion has certainly allowed Taffs Well to strengthen over the summer, and it’s not just in the senior team according to Brown.

“We’ve got quite a few new faces in our squad. A lot of players have shown interest in playing for us, and we’ve welcomed them from a variety of different leagues. Younger talent as well have expressed interest in playing for our U16 and U19 teams who are more than capable of playing for the senior side as well.

“We started preseason early, so we are looking good fitness wise. Everyone is in a good position in terms of knowing each other and knowing each other’s style of play. We are in a good place right now.”

As the new season rapidly approaches, attention turns to what could be possible in the Genero Adran South.

On paper, the league looks incredibly close to call. All eight teams have made plenty of signings, and with the title race going down to the final day last season, anything feels possible this time around.

Brown is buoyed by how recent newly-promoted sides have been able to survive in their first season and she is optimistic about Taffs Well’s chances.

Genero Adran South

“Year on year throughout Welsh football, things are getting equally better, and that’s good because you don’t want to see the same teams winning each year. When we’ve spoken as a squad about the league, we think there are obvious front runners but at the same time, we think any team could win it. It makes it exciting but also nerve-wracking. It’s hard coming up and staying up, but we know how high the standard will be.

“Over the last few years, we’ve seen the likes of Llanelli, Cwmbran Celtic, Penybont thrive in that sort of mid to top table places. It doesn’t make us think anything is possible, but it makes us believe that we are more than capable of challenging for a good position in the league. As long as you put the work in, that’s where you will start to see a difference.”

No matter where the club will finish this season, Brown knows what Genero Adran South football could do this season. Survival will be one thing, but the team see this as an incredible opportunity to grow the club to a whole new level.

“First and foremost, realistically, staying up is our goal. A mid to top table finish would be fantastic. With the quality of the teams around us we know it’ll be a real challenge, but one we as a squad want to try and aim for.

“We also want to finish the league in a better position than when we started, whether that be through our performances, a bigger squad base, but also inspiring our pathways to show our younger players that they can be at this level. A lot of things to aim for, but we’re hopeful.”
