Why Swansea City’s pink kit means more for forward Monet Legall

When Swansea City don their pink kit on Sunday against Aberystwyth Town in the Genero Adran Premier, it will have extra meaning for Monet Legall.

Sunday, February 4, is World Cancer Day.

And the strip honours the club’s charity partner Maggie’s Centres, with each coloured spot in the design representing a different type of cancer, with a slogan on the neckline “Tackling cancer together”.

It is a message that means a lot to Legall, as her aunt is currently facing her second battle with a rare cancer, pseudomyxoma peritonei.

“I did the photo shoot with the kit back in the summer, so I saw it before it was released to the public,” says Legall. “It’s an amazing thing.”

“Cancer is something that has affected everyone. It’s a raw thing, talking about cancer, but it’s a thing that is good to talk about. There’s so many forms of it and everyone has a story that links to it. It brings not only Swansea but the community as a whole together, which is nice.”

The partnership with Maggie’s means that people’s stories are being shared on matchday and across social media, which Legall has found reassuring.

“You know that someone else has gone through similar with their family, and they’ve gone through a lot and they’re thriving, or if they’re not, they’re proud of how far they’ve come as a family and as a community. It’s such a good concept.”
