Novira Cymru Leagues latest: Veteran striker set to lace his boots again in the top flight

All of the latest news from across the Novira Cymru Leagues with just over a week to go until the start of the 2026/27 season.

NOVIRA CYMRU PREMIER

Veteran marksman Jamie Reed has cut short his brief retirement to bolster Holywell Town’s attacking options for the new season. Reed, 38, announced his retirement back in May having spent what appeared to be his final playing campaign with Bangor 1876, but will now return to action with the newly promoted Wellmen.

Briton Ferry Llansawel have secured the signing of left-back Jacob Jones. The former Swansea City starlet featured 21 times in the Novira Cymru Premier for Penybont last season, with Forest Green and Bath City among his former clubs.

Barry Town United have unveiled highly rated attacking midfielder Owen Brain as their latest new arrival. Brain arrives at Jenner Park from Taunton Town for an undisclosed fee.

Finally, after 180 appearances and 79 goals, former Novira Cymru Premier Golden Boot winner Jason Oswell has announced his retirement. Oswell enjoyed a celebrated career in Welsh football, featuring for Rhyl FC, Airbus UK Broughton, Newtown and Connah’s Quay.

NOVIRA CYMRU NORTH

Buckley Town boss Dave Evans is looking forward to seeing how young goalkeeper Bryn Owen can develop at the club after the 19-year-old joined on a season-long loan from The New Saints. “Despite his young age, Bryn is highly rated and has already built a strong reputation within the Welsh Premier and beyond,” he said.

“He fits perfectly with the style of football we want to play, and we look forward to supporting his continued development and the relationships he will build with Steve Roberts, Charlie Holland and Ryan Goldston, once fit.” Owen made a solitary appearance in the Novira Cymru Premier last season.

Brickfield Rangers believe the arrival of former Wrexham midfielder Robbie Evans is a statement of the club’s intent for the coming campaign. The Penycae-born 31-year-old has spent the past three seasons at Newtown, having previously made 156 appearances for Wrexham. “It’s a true marquee signing that underlines our ambition and intent to compete at the highest level,” said the club.

In a busy week for the club, Brickfield have also announced the return of two former players in Dom Doherty and ex-captain Kiran Russell. Striker Sam Flory also arrives at Clywedog Park, along with goalkeeper Carlo Jones, who lifted the Ardal North West title with Bangor 1876 last season.

Hanoch Boakye has returned to former club Newtown. The striker had made the transition from the Robins’ Under-19 side into their first team before joining Market Drayton last season.

Rhyl 1879 have confirmed the arrival of versatile defender Daniel Apantaku Aveiros following an impressive trial spell, and Mold Alex have completed the signings of goalkeeper Joe Angus from Llandudno and exciting young prospect Alex Jones from Airbus UK.

Rookies Cai Thomas and Cai Williams have both been retained by Penrhyncoch.

Osian Davies becomes Denbigh Town’s eighth new arrival of the summer after ending a 12-year association with Ruthin Town. The midfielder returns to Central Park for the first time since departing the club as a teenager. “He’s played hundreds of games at this level, captained Ruthin for more than five years and lifted silverware, and now he comes to us looking sharp following his injury last season,” said Denbigh boss Dewi Llion.

NOVIRA CYMRU SOUTH

Carmarthen Town have made the double signing of Dion Phillips and Ryan Bevan. Phillips returns to Richmond Park, having briefly played for the club in 2021, and arrives from Penrhyncoch. Bevan featured for Briton Ferry Llansawel last season, with previous spells at Trefelin, Llanelli Town and Pontypridd Town.

Also departing Pontypridd is midfielder Jack Jones, who makes the switch to Llantwit Major. “Jack’s a young and talented central midfielder who will bring skill and aggression to the side,” said manager Karl Lewis. “He featured in the second half of our pre-season contest on Saturday and made a good impression.”

Striker Levi Rees has returned to former club Trethomas Bluebirds. “We are beyond thrilled to welcome Levi back to Trethomas. He was instrumental in our promotion to the Novira Cymru South, scoring an incredible 28 goals in 25 league appearances. He’s a proven goalscorer and a huge part of our success,” read a Bluebirds statement.

Rhys McCarthy has returned to former club Cardiff Draconians from Caerphilly Athletic. Also making the switch to the Dracs is former Afan Lido defender Carlos Indjai. Elsewhere, Pontardawe Town have retained the services of promising young duo Max Pearson and Jordan Cullen.
