Novira Cymru Leagues latest: Ammanford strengthen up front as Flint bid farewell to talisman

All of the latest news from across the Novira Cymru Leagues with just two days to go until the start of the 2026/27 season.

NOVIRA CYMRU PREMIER

Ammanford have strengthened their attacking options with the signing of experienced forward Jonathan Evans from Aberystwyth Town. The 33-year-old arrives after finishing as the Seasiders’ top scorer last season with 10 goals in 21 appearances, taking his career tally to more than 50 senior goals across spells with Aberystwyth, Penrhyncoch and Briton Ferry Llansawel.

Flint Town United boss Lee Fowler believes he can get the best out of experienced midfielder Lassana Mendes. The 33-year-old featured for Bala Town last season and Fowler is hoping Mendes can roll back the years and establish himself as a firm favourite for the Silkmen. “Four seasons ago, I believe he was one of the best players in the league,” he said. “The last couple of seasons have seen a drop-off, but I think we can get him back to that.”

“After seeing him closely, it’s clear he has a massive personality and is a maverick. It seems the days of personality in footballers have left the game which is sad to see, but not in his case. We want him to be himself on the pitch, as on the pitch he can stay calm in good moments.”

Meanwhile, the Silkmen have reluctantly announced their decision to transfer-list forward Elliot Reeves, who is seeking a move away from the club due to changing personal circumstances. “We are disappointed to find ourselves in this situation so close to the start of the season, but appreciate it is something out of our control, and recognise it is something that can happen within semi-professional football.

“We would like to sincerely thank Elliot for his commitment to the club and he will be hugely missed by the staff, officials and fans alike,” read a club statement, with the striker relocating to London.

Former Cardiff City, Newport County and Morecambe midfielder Aaron Wildig has put pen to paper to join Cardiff Met on a one-season deal. Wildig, 34, has played over 300 EFL games and featured last season for Gloucester City. Manager Ryan Jenkins says his experience can be key for the Archers this season.

“He’s had an excellent career and has played at a really high level for a long time, so the experience he brings is obvious, but just as importantly, he’s a top character,” he said. “He’s a real professional, leads by example, and has the standards and mentality that will have a positive influence on everyone around him. We’ve got a talented group with a good mix of youth and experience, and Aaron’s presence will help us both on and off the pitch.”

Also arriving at the Cyncoed Stadium is defender Jack Veale, who returns on a two-year deal. The right-back previously featured for the club in 2024/25, making over 40 appearances for the Archers.

Former Bayer Leverkusen academy product Brandon Diau has become Airbus UK Broughton’s third new arrival this summer. The towering defender, 6ft 6, arrives for a second spell in Welsh football, having previously joined Flint Town United in 2022 before joining Colwyn Bay.

Cambrian United have added central midfielder Danny Hillman to their ranks from Newport City, whilst Taylor Jones has put pen to paper for a second season with the club. The defender made 23 appearances for Cam in Novira Cymru South last season.

Holywell Town have completed the signings of pacey striker Florian Yonsian and midfielder Thuso Nyoni. Elsewhere, Briton Ferry have announced the signing of Luke Salter, and Seth Woodhouse has committed his future to Ammanford AFC for another campaign.

NOVIRA CYMRU NORTH

Porthmadog have moved for Brickfield Rangers goalkeeper Robbie Williams. The 24-year-old has previously featured for Prestatyn Town, Guilsfield, and Gresford Athletic, and Port manager Chris Jones explained he’s delighted to land the former TNS academy stopper. “Robbie has played a lot of football at a good level,” he said. “He’s hungry, he’s ambitious, and he brings real experience to an important position. We’re delighted to have him on board.”

Midfielder Gavin Rowlands has secured himself a spot in Caersws’ squad for the upcoming season after catching the eye of manager Neil Lewis during pre-season. “Gavin has done really well with us. His energy, positivity and versatility will be a big asset for us next season,” said Lewis.

Penrhyncoch have announced the signing of youngster Steffan Davies to Cae Baker. The club have also confirmed Gethin Evans, Taylor Richardson and John James have all been retained for the Roosters’ upcoming campaign.

NOVIRA CYMRU SOUTH

Former academy product Osian James has returned to Carmarthen Town. The 19-year-old midfielder returns to Richmond Park following spells with Haverfordwest County and Llechryd AFC. Manager Rhodri Thomas said: “I’m pleased to have him back on board, he’s a young player who has loads of potential. Having spent time at our academy it’s good to have Osian back with us.”

19-year-old defender Rhys Jenkins, brother of former Aberystwyth, Haverfordwest and current Newport County defender Lee Jenkins, has also joined the Old Gold, completing a move from Penrhyncoch. The club have also moved for young striker Hari Jones, another former academy player, who returns following an impressive spell for Lampeter Town last season.

Meanwhile, Pontardawe Town prospect Fraser Hopkins has been rewarded with a place in the first-team squad. “Making the step into senior football is a huge milestone, but Fraser has shown he’s more than ready. His attitude, commitment and performances have deservedly seen him become a regular part of the squad, and we’re excited to see his development continue in Black and White,” read a club statement.

Newport City have completed five signings in the space of a week with Luke Conaty from Afan United, Jake Wilson from Corsham Town, Briton Ferry youngster Connor Smith, Dafydd Owen from Llangenior and Drew Heffernan form Abertillery Bluebirds.

Goalkeeper Aaron Jones has returned to Afan Lido after a spell at Trethomas Bluebirds, with the club also announcing the signing of 28-year-old central midfielder David Thomas from Cambrian United.

Elsewhere, Myles Corson has rejoined Cardiff Draconians after a brief spell at Cardiff Corinthians, and Pure Swansea have signed former Pontypridd, Cambrian, Llantwit Major and Cwmamman United goalkeeper Kane Draper.
