Novira Cymru Premier round-up: Trefelin secure first ever top flight victory with impressive away win

Trefelin secured their first ever Novira Cymru Premier victory with an impressive 3-1 win over Cardiff Met at Cyncoed Stadium on Friday.

Trefelin were awarded a penalty with eight minutes on the clock as Cardiff Met defender Jack Hooper made a bizarre error and picked the ball up inside the area thinking Arron Davies’ goal-kick had not yet been taken. Tyler Brock stepped up from the penalty spot and made no mistake, rolling past Davies to open the scoring.

Jasper Jones doubled Trefelin’s lead on the half-hour mark as he got in front of Hooper to meet Lewys Ware’s cross and guide his header into the far corner from close range.

Hooper pulled a goal back for Met when he fired in the rebound from Sam Snaith’s blocked effort, but Trefelin restored their two-goal cushion late on thanks to Roan Piper, who met Declan Horgan’s cutback before sending a fierce strike which crashed off the crossbar and into the net.

Substitute Piper picked up his first goal in the top-flight

Joel Edwards thought he had halved the deficit for the Archers and set up an interesting finish deep into stoppage time with his finish from close range, but the goal was ruled out for offside following a VAR check, adding to Met’s frustration, while Trefelin enjoyed celebrating their historic first ever win in the top-flight.

George Peers scored a perfect hat-trick as Airbus UK Broughton claimed back-to-back victories with a 4-1 win over Llandudno at the Go Goodwins Stadium.

Llandudno took the lead thanks to Ben Maher, who controlled Liam Higgins’ cutback and fired into the bottom corner, but Airbus were awarded a penalty in the 22nd minute after Peers was fouled by Iwan Cartwright inside the area. Peers stepped up and snuck his spot kick into the net despite Llandudno goalkeeper Joel Torrance getting a strong hand to the ball.

The Wingmakers quickly completed their turnaround three minutes later as long range specialist Jordan Evans curled his free-kick from the edge of the area into the top corner.

All three of Jordan Evans’ goals this season have come from outside the area

Peers then put Airbus in a commanding position at half time as he received Kaiden Cooke’s smart through ball and turned away from Jayden Lloyd and Torrance before firing low into an empty net. Peers’ second of the evening was initially ruled out for offside, but a VAR review overturned the decision and rightly allowed the goal to stand.

The same combination struck again as Peers completed his perfect treble on 62 minutes by meeting Cooke’s cross and guiding his header into the far corner, leaving Llandudno’s substitute goalkeeper Jack Fisher standing still. Llandudno’s woes increased with five minutes remaining as Cartwright was shown a red card for a second bookable offence following his foul on Sean Moscrop. Airbus are now the first team to score four goals away to Llandudno since Holywell Town did so in March 2024.

Peers now leads the goalscoring charts in the Novira Cymru Premier

The New Saints maintained their six-point lead at the top of the table with a 6-1 victory over Holywell Town at the Barton’s North Wales Stadium.

Saints were awarded a penalty in the 27th minute after VAR Danny Sullivan’s foul on Brad Young to be inside the area. Young used a hop, skip and jump technique to place his penalty into the bottom corner before the Wellmen drew level shortly before half time as Sullivan volleyed home a loose ball from close range.

Holywell goalkeeper Alex Swindell did well to keep out Young’s header early in the second half, but the ball eventually fell back out to Rhys Hughes, who placed his effort from the edge of the box into the bottom corner for his fifth goal in four games. Young struck the post with a neat flick from a few yards out, but Saints did not have to wait much longer their third goal as Josh Lock tapped in from Jordan Williams’ low delivery.

Lock is enjoying his best-ever scoring season after netting his seventh goal

Craig Harrison’s side took firm control from then on as Jack Bodenham headed into the roof of the net from Hughes’ cross before Ben Clark met Lock’s delivery from the left hand side and sent his downwards header past Swindell for his first goal of the season. Williams wrapped up a convincing second half display from Saints in stoppage time with a penalty of his own as the champions stormed to their 12th consecutive win.

Ethan Cann scored twice as Penybont returned to winning ways with a 3-1 win over Barry Town United at the Dragonbet Stadium.

Cann and Barry forward Jack Shaw both rattled the crossbar early on for their respective teams, but the opening goal soon arrived as Barry took the lead through James Lester, who met Mikey George’s floating free-kick and headed past the outrushing Alex Pennock.

Teenager Lester now has two senior goals to his name

That advantage lasted just eight minutes though, as Cann controlled Nathan Wood’s header down, turned and fired past George Ratcliffe. The key turning point arrived six minutes before half time as Lester initially won Barry a free-kick in his own area, only for a length VAR check to deem he had in fact fouled Tom Mehew, which resulted in a penalty to Penybont. Tyler Walker emphatically dispatched his spot kick into the bottom corner to complete the turnaround and net his fourth goal of the season.

Cann gave Bont comfort eight minutes into the second half as he latched onto Mehew’s clipped pass and slotted beneath Ratcliffe in a one-on-one situation, much to the delight of the majority of the 1,332 fans in attendance. Rhys Griffiths’ side saw out the remainder of the second half to earn their fourth straight home win.

Cann now as four goals in his last four games

Second-place Connah’s Quay Nomads came from behind to earn their fifth successive victory in a 2-1 win over Briton Ferry Llansawel at The Renewable Centre Stadium.

Tom Walters spurned a glorious chance for the hosts inside just three minutes as he failed to hit the target with his penalty, which was awarded following Abdi Sharif’s foul on Dylan Packer inside the area. However, the Ferry striker redeemed himself on 33 minutes as he latched onto Tom Price’s long ball and slotted home at Chris Renshaw’s near post.

Egyptian forward Hussein Mehasseb was denied twice by Ferry goalkeeper Will Fuller and a sliding block from Ryan George towards the end of the first half, but the Nomads eventually found their equaliser near the hour mark as substitute Max Woodcock, who had only been on the pitch for three minutes, put a teasing cross into the box, where Jordan Hodkin squeezed his diving header past Fuller.

Summer signing Hodkin has five goal involvements in Nomads’ last five wins

Hodkin returned the favour to Woodcock as his clipped ball out to the left hand side saw Woodcock shape himself and place a clinical first-time finish into the net via the post to complete a quickfire turnaround for the Nomads, who remain second in the table and have now lost just once from their last 12 league games.

Sion Bradley scored a stunning late volley as Caernarfon Town clinched a 2-1 victory over Haverfordwest County at the Dynamite Bridge Meadow.

Zack Clarke scored his 12th league goal of the season to put Caernarfon ahead early in the match as he converted from the penalty spot after Adrian Cieslewicz’s strike from distance hit Jacob Owen’s arm. Osian Evans had a great chance to double Caernarfon’s advantage near the hour as he went on a magnificent solo run and rounded Ifan Knott before shooting straight at Kyle McCarthy, who was there to make a goal-line clearance.

Clarke has already surpassed his previous best goals tally for a season

Haverfordwest forward Lewis Rees and manager Tony Pennock were both shown straight red cards for dissent, but the Bluebirds found an equaliser moments later against the odds as McCarthy crossed into Ben Ahmun, who held off Ben Nash to head home from close range.

Haverfordwest’s mood quickly changed though, as Caernarfon restored their lead with five minutes remaining. Nash’s initial shot was blocked by McCarthy but Bradley met loose ball and sent a powerful volley into the top corner, leaving Knott hardly any chance of the save. The Cofis remain unbeaten away from home in the Novira Cymru Premier, while Haverfordwest’s frustration grew following the full-time whistle as Owen received a red card for a second bookable offence.

Ammanford built on their first win of the season from last weekend as Joe Case’s strike proved decisive in a 1-0 win over Cambrian United at the M&P Group 3G.

Case’s winning moment arrived inside just three minutes as Tom Wright’s long ball was not dealt with by Cambrian, allowing 18-year-old Case to run through on goal and slot past Kelland Absalom for his first ever senior goal.

Case came through the ranks at Barry before making the switch to the black and white army

Ammanford were reduced to 10 players in the 71st minute as Matt Delaney was shown a straight red card for his late challenge on Jack Karadogan. Wright made some important saves to keep the visitors’ lead and Ammanford’s first ever clean sheet in the top-flight intact. Cambrian’s hopes of a late equaliser were dashed deep into stoppage time as defender Jarrad Wright was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Colwyn Bay climbed up to fifth in the table after Sol Forde’s header sealed a 1-0 win over Flint Town United at the Essity Stadium in Saturday’s sole fixture.

Forde’s all-important goal came in the 26th minute as he met Josh Williams’ accurate cross and dropped his looping header over Jack Flint and into the net to grab his third goal of the season.

Sol Forde has picked up a habit of scoring winning goals

Forde’s fellow defender Lewis Sirrell missed a glorious chance for the Seagulls in the second half when he struck the crossbar from close range, but the visitors defended well for the rest of the match to take home all three points as manager Michael Wilde got the upper hand on his former teammate Danny Holmes, who suffered his first defeat as Flint boss.
