Novira Cymru North round-up: Mold Alexandra stun league leaders to move second

Mold Alexandra moved up to second in the Novira Cymru North with a statement 4-0 victory over leaders Brickfield Rangers at Clywedog Park on Saturday.

Mold needed just 10 minutes to open the scoring as Max McGoona latched onto Henry Nash’s long ball and turned away from Matty Williams and Ryan Williams before curling beautifully beyond Carl Jones. Mold captain Nash was involved once again, as he doubled his side’s lead three minutes into the second half with his first goal since February.

Kieran Owen set up fellow attacker Owen Cordiner, who ultimately put the game to bed in the 74th minute by grabbing the third goal before substitute Sam Duffy, who had only been on the pitch for two minutes, had the final say in stoppage time as he scored from James Davies’ cross. A fourth consecutive away win for Barry Owen’s side now puts them just four points behind Brickfield, who lost at home for the first time this season.

Duffy now has four goals in his last five games in all competitions

Buckley Town continued their bright form with a stunning 3-2 victory over Bala Town at Maes Tegid on Friday.

Buckley took the lead midway through the first half as Will Bell’s foul on Connor Littler inside the area allowed September’s Novira Cymru North Player of the Month Ben Guest to score from the penalty spot. Littler was involved again for Buckley’s second goal as his dangerous low cross led to Bala forward Osebi Abadaki poking the ball into his own net.

Bala scored two quickfire goals just past the hour mark to draw level as Ross White met Naim Arsan’s free-kick and guided his header into the net via the underside of the crossbar before Okera Simmonds steered the ball home from John Owen’s flick-on to score fourth goal in three league games.

However, the Bucks were handed the chance to restore their lead with another penalty as this time Dylan Proctor went to ground inside the area after being clipped by Aron Williams. Littler stepped up from 12 yards and calmly converted to give Dave Evans’ side yet another epic away win, following on from their 6-2 triumph over Bangor City 1876 last month.

Llanuwchllyn bounced back with an impressive 4-1 victory over Penrhyncoch at Cae Llan on Saturday.

Penrhyncoch defender Isaac Aldred scored an unfortunate own goal as Llanuwchllyn took the lead with 17 minutes on the clock, but the Roosters were level shortly into the second half thanks to Owain Evans, who scored the club’s first away goal of the season.

Llanuwchllyn eventually retook control as low drives from Gwydion Roberts, James Davies and Gwydion Ifan all found their way past Leigh Jenkins to give Sion Tudor’s side their first league win in over a month.

Fixtures and Results

Novira Cymru North

Denbigh Town won away from home for the first time since the opening day as late goals from Toby Gallagher-Keenan and Tom Kelly sealed a 2-0 victory over Guilsfield at Clos Mytton on Saturday.

It took 71 minutes for their breakthrough to arrive as Gallagher-Keenan received Nathan Brown’s pass on the edge of the area and fired past Mike Jones from the edge of the area. Kelly put the result beyond doubt seven minutes later as he controlled Elliott Orton’s cross and produced a clinical finish from close range for his fifth league goal of the season.

The result also marked Denbigh’s first league clean sheet away from home since August 2025, while the Guils suffered their first home defeat of the campaign.

Porthmadog secured their fourth straight league win and clean sheet with a narrow 1-0 victory over Gresford Athletic at Clappers Lane on Saturday.

Porthmadog were gifted the winning goal in the 31st minute as Gresford defender Connor Whelan turned the ball into his own net. Chris Jones’ side are now just four points behind current leaders Brickfield Rangers.

Ruthin Town made it three consecutive Novira Cymru North games unbeaten following their 1-1 draw with Rhyl 1879 at the Memorial Playing Fields on Friday.

Rhyl opened the scoring on 20 minutes as Dan Apantaku released Josh Jones with a ball over the Ruthin defender before Jones slotted past Dan Goldston when one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

However, Ruthin equalised just 12 minutes later as neat work from Alex Boss down the right hand side saw him cut the ball back to Dave Forbes, whose effort deflected into the net. Colin Caton’s side improved in the second half, but could not find a way past Rhyl’s substitute goalkeeper Stephen Bullen, who made a key late save to ensure the Lilywhites took a point home.

Rhyl finished the game with 10 players as their captain Reece Fairhurst was sent off in stoppage time for a second bookable offence. Following the match, Rhyl announced the departure of manager Paul Moore as their winless run reached six matches.

Moore led Rhyl to the Ardal League title and a memorable Welsh Cup run to the semi-finals

Holyhead Hotspur picked up just their second point on home turf this season as they played out a 1-1 draw with Caersws at The Yates Stadium on Saturday.

Caersws took the lead after just eight minutes played as Callum Francis-Jones scored for the second week in a row, but Holyhead levelled the contest shortly before half time thanks to Jamie Jones. A goalless second half meant both sides went home with a point.

Bangor City 1876 kept their first clean sheet away from home this season as they played out a goalless draw with Newtown at Latham Park on Saturday.

Newtown have only conceded three goals all season

Bangor had a glorious chance to break the deadlock five minutes into the second half as Cai Owen delivered the ball into Tommy Creamer, who was left with a free header but could only guide his effort over the bar. Declan McManus also fired narrowly over from a free-kick on the edge of the area for the visitors.

Huw Griffiths’ first point in charge as Bangor manager lifts his side back up to seventh in the table, while Newtown join Mold Alexandra and Porthmadog in sitting four points behind leaders Brickfield Rangers.
