JD Cymru North round-up | Airbus end Flint Town United’s unbeaten run

Airbus UK Broughton inflicted a first league defeat of the season on fellow title challengers Flint Town United as the Wingmakers extended their lead at the top of the table to four points.

Airbus drew first blood as Tyler McManus found the net with his first goal for the club. Flint were reduced to men at the start of the second half as Paddy Lacey denied a goalscoring opportunity, but Airbus were unable to score from the resulting penalty as Craig Lindfield rattled the crossbar.

The Wingmakers eventually took advantage of the extra man as Jordan Evans doubled the lead in the 79th minute before Lindfield made amends for his missed spot kick with a well placed header to wrap things up. Mark Allen’s side go four points clear at the summit of the JD Cymru North, but Flint still have those three crucial games in hand.

Holywell Town kept up the pressure towards the league leaders with a tightly contested 2-1 victory over Bangor 1876 at the Achieve More Stadium.

After an intense opening hour, a magical spell from Johnny Haseldin’s side saw them race into a two goal lead courtesy of goals from Substitute Mark Winslade and Jamie Breese, who bagged his third goal in three games since arriving at the Wellmen.

Cai Powell-Roberts netted his first ever Bangor goal deep into stoppage time, but the away side were unable to find a late equaliser, meaning Holywell secure a fifth consecutive win to continue their pursuit of the JD Cymru North title.

Joe Chaplin marked his first Gresford Athletic appearance since November in style as his second half double secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory for the Colliers away to Llandudno.

Stevan Stanic-Floody and Fabrizio Murtas gave Jordan Hadaway’s side a narrow lead after Charley Edge had opened the scoring for the visitors.

Gresford then clawed back through Chaplin’s brace to clinch all three points just moments after Llandudno went ahead as Eddie Maurice-Jones’ men move six points clear of the relegation zone.

JD Cymru Leagues veteran Jamie Reed hit a superb hat-trick as Buckley Town escaped the bottom three with a dominant 5-1 victory over fellow strugglers Prestatyn Town.

Reed broke the deadlock before setting up Max Moore as Buckley opened up a two goal lead. Reed then completed his hat-trick in added time of the first half, and three minutes into the second half.

Dylan Roberts added a fifth for the Bucks with his first goal of the season. Prestatyn midfielder Tyler Joyce grabbed a late consolation goal for his side, but the damage was already done as Asa Hamilton’s side close the gap up to the Seasiders to just one point as they now aim to climb the table and further away from safety.

Danny Warren proved to be the hero for Mold Alexandra once again as his late finish secured a 2-1 win for Mold against Porthmadog at Y Traeth.

Youngster Eric Durnell, whose last league goal for the Alex came in the reverse league fixture against Port, found the breakthrough in the 39th minute, but his strike was quickly cancelled out by Danny Brookwell’s equaliser.

Warren then popped up seven minutes from full time to restore Mold’s lead with a close-range finish, which creeped into the back of the net despite Ollie Farebrother getting a strong hand to the ball. Mold extend their lead in fourth place as their solid season continues whereas Port drop into the relegation zone following a sixth straight defeat.

There was also a late winner at the Community Centre Ground as Cal Bromley’s 82nd minute strike earned Guilsfield a 2-1 victory over Ruthin Town to continue their fine run of form.

Guilsfield frontman Iwan Matthews netted his first goal of 2024 to give the Guils a late first half lead, but Ruthin drew level through Tom Dyer’s calmly converted penalty to set up a grandstand finish.

Guils manager Nathan Leonard used his bench to perfection as Cal Bromley scored just ten minutes after coming on as a substitute to put his side into the top half with an important three points. A first defeat since Boxing Day for Ruthin means they drop down to ninth.
