JD Cymru Premier round-up | Aberystwyth Town move out of the relegation zone with vital win

Liam Walsh’s early second half strike saw ten-man Aberystwyth Town leapfrog Colwyn Bay and climb out of the relegation zone with a 1-0 win on Friday night – their first home victory in the JD Cymru Premier this season.

With the score still goalless, the Seasiders’ task appeared to be made harder when Mark Cadwallader received a straight red card on the stroke of half-time for his challenge on Tom Creamer.

However, it did not faze the home side as Liam Walsh was on hand to tuck away the rebound after Alex Darlington’s initial long range effort was tipped onto the crossbar.

Anthony Williams’ side held on for all three points despite late pressure from their opponents, meaning they are out of the bottom two for the first time since August. Meanwhile, Bay fall back into the drop zone.

League leaders The New Saints opened up a 15 point gap at the top of the table with an 8-0 victory over Cardiff Met at Park Hall as Brad Young celebrated his 21st birthday with a sublime hat-trick.

Met’s Lewis Rees received a straight red card in the 31st minute for denying Leo Smith a goalscoring opportunity and Ryan Brobbel opening the scoring with the resulting penalty. From that point on, TNS took full advantage of having the extra man.

Brobbel scored his second of the game in the 43rd minute, with Young grabbing a first half brace of his own too. Substitutes Adrian Cieslewicz and Declan McManus added the fifth and sixth goals for the Saints before Young completed his hat-trick with a cool finish.

Rory Holden made it eight late on as Craig Harrison’s side continue their quest towards yet another JD Cymru Premier title.

Barry Town United scored four goals in a JD Cymru Premier match for the first time since August 2021 as they stunned top half Newtown with a 4-0 victory at Jenner Park.

Ben Blythe stole the show as his first half double gave Barry a deserved lead. Sam Snaith’s first league goal since August – a powerful header from a corner – put the hosts 3-0 up, which was followed by Blythe turning provider for Ollie Hulbert to coolly slot home.
