JD Cymru North round-up | Hamilton produces late heroics off the bench for Buckley Town

Another impressive second half performance from Holywell Town saw them secure a 4-1 victory over ten-man Gresford Athletic at the Achieve More Stadium. 

Colliers defender Adam Hesp was shown was shown a straight red card in the 25th minute for handling the ball inside the area, but his side survived the resulting penalty as Danny Sullivan missed from the spot. 

The visitors then took a surprise lead in the 41st minute as Toby Gallagher-Keenan fired a sweet strike into the top corner, but Holywell levelled in first half stoppage time through Mike Pearson. 

The floodgates then opened in the second half as the Wellmen made full use of the numerical advantage. Jamie Breese’s penalty and late goals from Jake Cooke and Sam Jones completed the turnaround as Johnny Haseldin’s side earned a sixth consecutive JD Cymru North victory and moved within two points of leaders Airbus UK Broughton. 

Second-place Flint Town United are now just one point behind the Wingmakers following their 3-1 victory away at Guilsfield. 

Elliott Reeves struck in the 27th and 45th minutes to give Lee Fowler’s side a healthy two-goal lead at the break before Josh Jones added a third midway through the second half. 

Both captains received red cards as Jolyon Harries and Jay Owen were dismissed for a heated altercation in the 84th minute, before Iwan Matthews grabbed a late consolation for the hosts. 

Buckley Town player-coach Asa Hamilton came off the bench to score two late goals and complete a dramatic turnaround to defeat Caersws 2-1 at Deeside Stadium.

The Bluebirds took an early lead through Neil Mitchell, but they found themselves down to ten men on the hour mark as Ben Jones was shown a second yellow card. 

Hamilton substituted himself on with 18 minutes remaining and struck twice in the final five minutes to earn the Bucks a second consecutive victory which moves them four points clear of the relegation zone. 

Llanidloes Town earned just their second league win of the season – and first away from home – as they triumphed 1-0 over Porthmadog at Y Traeth. 

Connor Bird scored the decisive goal in the 83rd minute, which moves the Daffs eight points adrift of safety with games in hand over teams above them. A seventh successive league defeat for Port means they also remain in the relegation zone, two points adrift of safety. 

Corrig McGonigle’s 19th league goal of the season proved enough to earn Bangor 1876 a 1-0 win over bottom side Chirk AAA at Holyhead Road.

The decisive moment came on the stroke of half-time when Cai Powell-Roberts’ inviting ball was steered home by McGonigle from close range. Mike Johnston’s side move up to fifth in the table as a result of the three points.
