JD Cymru North & South round-up | Goalscoring goalkeeper Stanton strikes again for Baglan Dragons

Airbus UK Broughton pulled off an incredible comeback as three late goals saw them win 5-3 against Mold Alexandra and go six points clear at the top of the JD Cymru North table on Friday night.

After Kaiden Cooke had cancelled out Danny Warren’s sixth minute strike, Mold went into the interval with the lead again courtesy of Sam Duffy’s goal on the stroke of half-time.

Substitute Sam Baker pulled The Wingmakers level midway through the second half, but they fell behind once more through an unfortunate own goal from goalkeeper Keighan Jones in the 80th minute.

However, Airbus then turned the game on its head when Jordan Evans and Joe Palmer both netted 25-yard stunners within four minutes of each other to make it 4-3, before Oli Lanceley secured the three points with a composed stoppage-time finish.

In the JD Cymru South, Afan Lido captain Liam Griffiths ended a two-month goal drought with a late equaliser to clinch a 1-1 draw away to Goytre United on Friday.

Keane Watts scored his fifth goal in four league games to put the hosts ahead in the 47th minute, but they were unable to hold on to all three points despite being on top for the majority of the match as Griffiths popped up with a late header to earn a crucial point in Lido’s pursuit of top spot.

Baglan Dragons goalkeeper Mathew Stanton stunned the whole of the Rec when he amazingly scored his second goal of the season to earn a 2-2 draw away to Ammanford.

The Dragons went ahead through Tom Davies in the 35th minute, but the hosts quickly found an equaliser on the stroke of half-time thanks to Callum Thomas’ header.

Just when it looked like the three points were heading Ammanford’s way after captain Luke Harris had restored the lead, Stanton provided spectators with potentially one of the most memorable moments of the season as his long range effort sailed over everyone and into the back of the net with just two minutes remaining.

There was more late woe for Ammanford as Harris was shown a second yellow card in stoppage time, meaning he will miss their meeting with Trefelin next Friday.
