JD Cymru Leagues games to watch | 8-9 December

The JD Welsh Cup fourth round this weekend means a depleted JD Cymru Leagues schedule, but there are still plenty of enticing fixtures to keep an eye on.

JD Cymru North – Airbus UK Broughton v Mold Alexandra (Friday, 7:30pm)

Airbus UK Broughton moved to the top of the JD Cymru North table with a 3-2 victory over Chirk AAA last weekend and although both Holywell Town and Flint Town have three games in hand on The Wingmakers, it is a great chance for Mark Allen’s side to extend their lead at the top in this first v fourth Flintshire derby.

However, it won’t be an easy ride as they face a Mold Alexandra side who have won six of their last seven league matches.

Steve Monk’s men suffered a narrow 2-1 loss to JD Cymru Premier side Cardiff Met in the JD Welsh Cup at the beginning of November, but they have returned to winning ways in recent weeks against both Gresford Athletic and Guilsfield – 5-1 and 2-1 respectively.

Both of these sides aren’t short of goals either. Airbus have found the net in every game since the beginning of October and have scored three or more goals in eight games this season.

Meanwhile, Mold Alex have scored a staggering 56 goals this season already and have failed to get on the scoresheet in just two fixtures this season, so this fixture will hopefully provide spectators with a flurry of goals.

JD Cymru North – Chirk AAA v Prestatyn Town (Saturday, 2pm)

Chirk AAA will be looking for a crucial three points to move off the bottom of the table against a Prestatyn Town side who have lost four of their last five league matches.

The Colliers may fancy themselves on home soil after a spirited performance against Airbus UK Broughton last weekend despite a 3-2 loss.

Prestatyn will see this as a great opportunity to push away from relegation danger, but they will be without star forward Dan Atkins following his straight red card against Denbigh Town in their last league outing.

Chirk’s only league victory this season came in a 1-0 home triumph over Llanidloes Town in August, whereas Prestatyn’s only away victory in the league came against Bangor 1876, also in August, so something may have to give in this crunch clash at Holyhead Road.

JD Cymru South – Abertillery Bluebirds v Trefelin (Saturday, 2pm)

Abertillery Bluebirds begin life without Ben Murphy in the dugout when they host Trefelin on Saturday afternoon.

Murphy stepped down from his position as manager this week following four consecutive league defeats, in which they have conceded 21 goals, leaving them nine points adrift of safety.

Trefelin’s scintillating 6-1 victory against the Bluebirds at the start of November moved them five points clear of the relegation zone and they will hope to move further away from danger this weekend.

Andy Hill’s side have lost back-to-back games since that win however, conceding six goals in the process, and now face a third successive away fixture.
