JD Cymru Leagues round-up | TNS make it 10 wins in a row while Nomads triumph in thriller

JD Cymru Premier leaders The New Saints made it 10 league wins in a row by coming from behind to beat Aberystwyth Town 3-1 on Tuesday night.

Mark Cadwallader’s flicked header put the Seasiders in front after just four minutes at Park Avenue, but Danny Davies brought TNS level deep into first half stoppage time when he capitalised on Dave Jones being off his line by firing home from long range.

In the second period, Brad Young gave the visitors the advantage from the penalty spot after Harry Owen was penalised for handball in the box and an own goal from Alex Darlington secured the points for TNS.

Newtown were the only other winners in the top-flight on Tuesday night as they triumphed 3-1 against Pontypridd United.

Ryan Sears opened the scoring with a close range header in the 28th minute, while Aaron Williams’ fierce strike which cannoned off the bar into the net doubled the Robins’ advantage early in the second half.

Ponty defender Keston Davies halved the deficit with 15 minutes remaining, but Zeli Ismail made sure of the win for Newtown with a superb solo goal deep into stoppage time.

Connah’s Quay Nomads returned to winning ways on Wednesday night as they triumphed 3-2 against Colwyn Bay in a thrilling game at the Four Crosses Construction Arena.

Jamie Cumming’s low free-kick put the Seagulls ahead in the 28th minute, but Jordan Davies drew the Nomads level by half-time before Harry Franklin headed the visitors in front early in the second period.

Udi Akpan made it 2-2 from the penalty spot after Nick Rushton was tripped in the box, but 40-year-old Michael Wilde came off the bench to head home the winning goal for the Nomads in the 78th minute.

Gwynedd duo Bala Town and Caernarfon Town were forced to settle for a point each in a 1-1 draw at Maes Tegid on Tuesday.

The Lakesiders’ Josh Ukek broke the deadlock inside 12 minute as he headed in a third goal in two games, but Adam Davies’ clever first-time finish in first half stoppage time brought the Cofis level.

The Five Mile Lane derby between Barry Town United and Penybont also finished 1-1 at Jenner Park on Tuesday night.

Barry captain Kayne Mclaggon tapped in from close range to open the scoring in the 26th minute, before Keyon Reffell headed home an equaliser against his former club in the second half.

The third 1-1 draw of Tuesday night came at Ogi Bridge Meadow, where Haverfordwest County and Cardiff Met could not be separated.

Tom Vincent headed in from Harry Owen’s corner to open the scoring on 28 minutes, while Ben Fawcett levelled on the stroke of half-time as he fired into the bottom corner when the ball fell to him in the box.

In the JD Cymru South, Keane Watts scored a hat-trick to help Goytre United to a 4-1 home victory over Pontardawe Town on Tuesday night.

After Watts scored twice in the opening 25 minutes, Rio Booth pulled a goal back for Ponty just before half-time. However, just three minutes into the second half Connah Troy was sent off for a foul in the box and Watts converted the resulting penalty to complete his treble. Goytre skipper Jordan Edwards added a fourth goal soon after.
