JD Cymru North round-up | Comeback wins for Denbigh Town and Guilsfiled

Denbigh Town came from behind and scored a 91st-minute winner in a 2-1 victory over Gresford Athletic in the JD Cymru North on Saturday.

Haci Ozlu’s sixth goal in as many league games gave the Colliers an early lead, but Nathan Brown’s penalty just before half-time levelled the contest. It remained all square until stoppage time, when ex-Gresford man Tom Weir curled the ball home from the edge of the box to defeat his former club.

Nathaniel MG Cup semi-finalists Guilsfield also completed a comeback to triumph 3-2 away at Caersws on Saturday.

Rhys Hesden had given the Bluebirds the lead at half-time, but Iwan Matthews, Andy Evans and Reece Warder all scored in a remarkable five-minute period to turn the game around. Sam Phillips’ 92nd-minute goal for Caersws proved only to be a consolation.

JD Cymru North leaders Holywell Town made it three league wins in a row by beating Chirk AAA 2-1 at the Achieve More Stadium on Saturday.

The Wellmen led in the first half through Mark Winslade only for the Colliers to level just a minute later as Dale Davies found the net, but Jake Cooke provided the winner for Holywell shortly after the hour mark with his eighth league goal of the campaign.

Second-place Airbus UK Broughton remain level on points with Holywell following a 2-1 comeback win away at Bangor 1876. The hosts led at half-time thanks to Craig Whelan’s header, but a George Peers double after the break earned the three points for the Wingmakers.

Flint Town United continued their unbeaten start to the league season with a 2-0 home win over Buckley Town. The two goals came within 12 minutes of each other in the second half from Josh Jones and then Elliott Reeves. The Silkmen remain in third place.

Jake Roberts continued his impressive form this season with the only goal in Mold Alexandra’s 1-0 win over struggling Llandudno at Alyn Park – a ninth consecutive victory in all competitions for Steve Monk’s side.

Porthmadog left it late to earn a 1-1 draw away at Ruthin Town on Friday night. Soulayman El Amri had given the hosts a first half lead, but Cai Jones finished off an excellent Port team move in the 93rd minute to see the contest end level.

Prestatyn Town bounced back from their Nathaniel MG Cup penalty shootout defeat in midweek by claiming a 1-0 victory over Llanidloes Town. Dan Atkins’ composed finish in the 70th minute proved to be the decisive moment.
