JD Cymru South round-up | Briton Ferry win five-goal thriller to maintain top spot

JD Cymru South leaders Briton Ferry Llansawel triumphed 3-2 in a thrilling Friday night game against neighbours Goytre United at Old Road.

Quick-fire goals from Luke Bowen and Josh Bull put Ferry 2-0 up after 21 minutes, but Goytre were level by half-time as Connor Smith and Ben Cripps both found the net. The winning goal came in the 58th minute when Bowen tapped home from Jasper Payne’s assist.

Ammanford came from two goals down to earn a point in a 2-2 draw against Carmarthen Town at the Rec on Friday night.

Noah Daley opened the scoring for the visitors inside the first minute, before captain Greg Walters doubled their advantage midway through the first half. Lewis Reed pulled a goal back before the break and then netted the equaliser in the 64th minute.

Llanelli Town had to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw away at Taffs Well on Friday. After a goalless first half, Sam Johnson’s ninth goal in as many matches put the Reds ahead but Harry Treharne found an equaliser for the hosts.

Ammanford and Llanelli dropping points meant that Afan Lido moved up to second place with a 4-1 home win over Llantwit Major. Rob Jones cancelled out Ieuan Evans’ opener, but Matthew Beynon, Josh Webber and Liam Griffiths all struck to earn a convincing three points for the Reds.

Pontardawe Town continued their impressive away form this season with a 2-0 victory at Cambrian & Clydach Vale on Saturday afternoon.

Iwan Batcup scored directly from a corner to break the deadlock, while Rio Booth doubled the lead with a header on the stroke of half-time. Cameron Keetch received a second yellow card late on to increase Cambrian & Clydach’s woes.

Caerau Ely made it three wins in their last four league matches by triumphing 3-0 over Baglan Dragons at Cwrt yr Ala Road on Friday. After Tom Randall was sent off for the visitors, two penalties from captain Jack Ashford either side of Tom McLean’s strike secured victory for the Young Guns.

Trefelin achieved consecutive wins for the first time since last December by beating Abergavenny Town 2-0 at Pen-Y-Pound on Friday. A second half Roan Piper brace proved decisive, while the hosts finished the game with nine men following red cards for Zach Duke and Joe Cashman.

Cwmbran Celtic moved up to sixth in the table with a 4-1 away win at Abertillery Bluebirds on Saturday afternoon.

A Tom Meechan double either side of Alex Bonthron’s finish put Celtic 3-0 up after 33 minutes, before the hosts were reduced to 10 men when Leigh Sharp received a second yellow card. Rhys Thomas pulled a goal back for the Bluebirds but was then also sent off, while Dominic Connor scored late on to wrap up the win for James Kinsella’s side.
