JD Cymru Premier round-up | Barry Town United earn first win and TNS run riot

Barry Town United earned their first win of the season by defeating previously unbeaten Bala Town 3-1 at Jenner Park on Saturday afternoon.

Ollie Hulbert netted a first half brace before Joshua Ukek halved the deficit after the break, but Kayne Mclaggon’s goal wrapped up victory for Steve Jenkins’ side, who move out of the relegation zone.

League leaders The New Saints ran riot on Friday night as they eased to a 5-1 victory away at Cardiff Met.

Cyncoed Campus was the only place Craig Harrison’s side suffered defeat in the league last season, but a brace from Brad Young, Jordan Williams’ edge of the box strike, Ben Clark’s close range finish and a penalty from Ryan Brobbel ensured the same did not happen again.

Connah’s Quay Nomads made it five wins in a row by triumphing 3-1 away at Haverfordwest County on Saturday.

Ben Nash gave the Nomads a first half lead, but they did not double their advantage until the 80th minute when Harry Franklin bundled the ball home from close range. Ryan Stratulis wrapped up the points with a remarkable strike from inside the centre circle, before Jack Wilson netted a stoppage time consolation for the Bluebirds.

Newtown’s 4-2 victory away at Colwyn Bay on Saturday was their fourth consecutive win which moved them into the top half.

The Robins were 3-0 up inside 17 minutes thanks to Louis Robles’ brace and Zeli Ismail’s finish inside the six yard box. A double for Colwyn Bay skipper Alex Downes got the Seagulls back in the game, but Newtown substitute Jason Oswell secured the win with an 87th minute header.

A Ryan Reynolds double helped Penybont to a 2-1 victory away at Aberystwyth Town on Friday night. The 23-year-old scored both goals in the space of 11 second half minutes to put Bont in control, while Seasiders captain Jack Thorn pulled one back in stoppage time.

Caernarfon Town moved up to fourth in the table with a 1-0 home win over Pontypridd United on Saturday evening. The breakthrough did not come until the 84th minute, when Phil Mooney headed home Darren Thomas’ delivery.
