JD Cymru South round-up | Pontardawe stage late comeback to hand Afan Lido first defeat

Afan Lido lost for the first time in the JD Cymru South this season as Pontardawe Town staged an incredible late comeback to triumph 3-2 at the Marston’s Stadium on Friday night.

Lido were 2-0 up on 77 minutes thanks to Liam McCreesh and Brad Flay, but Callum Silcox and Joe Lloyd got Ponty back level before Josh Dorward struck a dramatic winning goal in the 91st minute.

Cambrian & Clydach Vale also netted a stoppage winner to beat Briton Ferry Llansawel 3-2 on Friday in what was a second consecutive league defeat for the Reds.

Andy Hill’s side led 2-1 after Luke Bowen and Josh Bull had cancelled out Jake Cross’ opener, but Jay Woodford came off the bench to equalise from the penalty spot before fellow Cam Army substitute Tim Parker found the net in the 92nd minute.

Defeat for Lido and Ferry meant that Llanelli Town went top of the table with an emphatic 5-1 away win at Abergavenny Town on Friday night.

Sam Johnson continued his impressive recent form by bagging a brace, goalscoring defender Sean Cronin found the net again, while Calum Bateman and Louis Gerrard each got their first goals of the season.

Abertillery Bluebirds earned their first ever victory in the JD Cymru South as Leigh Sharp’s first goal for the club in the 54th minute proved enough to overcome Llantwit Major 1-0 on Saturday.

Fellow newly-promoted club Baglan Dragons continued their strong start to the campaign with a 4-1 win away at Taffs Well on Friday night.

Jay Thomas was the star of the show as he netted a 14-minute hat-trick in the first half after Josh Williams had opened the scoring. Harry Treharne scored a second half consolation for the Wellmen.

There was also a hat-trick at Cwrt yr Ala Road as Liam Thomas scored three in Carmarthen Town’s 4-2 victory against Caerau Ely. Noah Daley also found the net for the Old Gold, while Dan Bowen and substitute Ethan Deacon were the Young Guns’ scorers.

Ammanford lost for just the second time in the league this season as Goytre United triumphed 1-0 at the Rec on Friday. Ben Cripps’ first goal of the campaign in the 39th minute was the decisive moment.

Alex McDowall’s first half double helped Cwmbran Celtic to a 2-1 win away at Trefelin on Saturday. The hosts had Tom Krauze sent off but did find a late goal through substitute Damon Thomas.
