Nathaniel MG Cup | Third round review

Nathaniel MG Cup holders Bala Town crashed out of the competition on Tuesday night with a 1-0 defeat away at JD Cymru North side Guilsfield.

Following a goalless first half, Joe Haycock struck in the 66th minute to send Nathan Leonard’s side into the quarter-finals.

Swansea City progressed to the last eight by overcoming south Wales rivals Cardiff City on penalties after Kieron Evans cancelled out Maliq Cadogan’s opener in a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes.

Swans goalkeeper Evan Watts saved Fin Johnson’s penalty, before USA youth international Kristian Fletcher converted the winning spot-kick.

The all JD Cymru Premier clash between Aberystwyth Town and Pontypridd United also looked set to go to penalties after a goalless 90 minutes, but Dragons teenager Jack Karadogan struck in the second minute of stoppage time to send his side through.

JD Cymru Premier leaders The New Saints have reached the quarter-finals for the first time in five years thanks to a 4-1 home win over Porthmadog.

Josh Daniels opened the scoring inside five minutes before Port’s Shaun Cavanagh quickly levelled, but Ben Clark, Gwion Dafydd and Adrian Cieslewicz all found the net to earn victory for Craig Harrison’s team.

Tom Vincent was the Cardiff Met hero as the Archers eased through with a 4-0 victory away at Afan Lido. The 21-year-old netted a hat-trick before Eliot Evans wrapped up the win.

Gresford Athletic defeated Buckley Town in the third round for the second year in a row, triumphing 1-0 away at the Globe. Haci Ozlu’s goal in the 44th minute proved to be the difference as he chipped the ball over Bucks goalkeeper Ryan Goldston.

Briton Ferry Llansawel are the only JD Cymru South side left in the competition following their 1-0 win away at Ammanford. The only goal came in just the ninth minute, when Luke Bowen converted a penalty.

The tie between Prestatyn Town and Colwyn Bay was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Bastion Gardens. A new date will be announced in due course.
