JD Cymru Leagues round-up | Penybont steal win moments after conceding equaliser

Penybont earned a dramatic 3-2 victory over Caernarfon Town in the JD Cymru Premier on Saturday, moments after the Cofis thought they had earned a 2-2 draw at the SDM Glass Stadium.

After a Chris Venables double had cancelled out Marc William’s opener, Phil Mooney equalised in the 98thminute for Richard Davies’ side. Yet Penybont surged up the field straight from kick-off, Mael Davies crossed into the box and Caernarfon substitute Gruffydd John put into his own net to gift the hosts all three points.

Connah’s Quay Nomads continued their impressive recent form with a 4-0 home win over Cardiff Met. The Archers had only conceded twice all season ahead of the game, but Jack Kenny netted his third goal in as many matches, Ben Nash grabbed a brace and Michael Wilde came off the bench to score his first of the campaign.

Ryan Brobbel came off the bench to score a nine-minute hat-trick to help league leaders The New Saints triumph 5-1 against Haverfordwest County.

Leo Smith and Blaine Hudson had given Craig Harrison’s side a two-goal lead before Lee Jenkins pulled one back at Park Hall, but Brobbel was brought on and wrapped up the win in style.

Colwyn Bay made it back-to-back wins and triumphed at home for the first time this season as they defeated Aberystwyth Town 3-1 on Friday night.

Another screamer from Tom Creamer and Dan Jones’ first goal for the club gave them a 2-0 lead inside 28 minutes before Iwan Lewis halved the deficit for Aber on the stroke of half-time, but Udi Akpan’s goal after the break sealed the win for the Seagulls.

Aaron Williams scored twice to earn a 2-0 win for Newtown over Barry Town United at Latham Park. It was a third consecutive victory for the Robins, while Steve Jenkins’ team remain in the relegation zone without a win this term.

Pontypridd United and Bala Town have the two best defences in the JD Cymru Premier so it was no surprise that their encounter at USW Sports Park finished goalless, meaning the Lakesiders continued their unbeaten start to the season.

There was only one JD Cymru South fixture this weekend, but it proved to be a thriller as Cwmbran Celtic and Pontardawe Town played out a 4-4 draw at Celtic Park on Saturday.

The hosts led 3-2 at half-time after both sides had scored twice in first half stoppage time, before Alex Bonthron extended the advantage from the penalty spot on 81 minutes.

However, Pontardawe forward Tom Davies scored in the 84th minute to complete his hat-trick and make it 4-3 and Celtic substitute Dominic Connor put into his own net in stoppage time to see the game end in level.
