D Cymru Leagues games to watch | 8-9 September

A full second tier programme returns this weekend after last week’s Welsh Blood Service League Cup action, while the JD Cymru Premier continues in earnest. Here are the key games to watch.

JD Cymru Premier – Cardiff Met v Pontypridd United (Friday, 7:45pm)

Cardiff Met and Pontypridd United both sit on eight points after five games in the top-flight but have got to that tally via contrasting routes.

The Archers went unbeaten in their first four league matches without conceding a goal, but lost 2-1 away at Newtown last weekend.

Meanwhile, the Dragons were winless in their first three games but have since earned back-to-back 1-0 victories against Aberystwyth Town and Barry Town United.

Met won both matches between the two clubs last season, triumphing 3-0 at Cyncoed Campus before a 1-0 victory away at USW Sports Park.

JD Cymru North – Flint Town United v Caersws (Saturday, 2:30pm)

Flint Town United were relegated from the JD Cymru Premier last season and Caersws were promoted from the Ardal North East, but the two clubs both sit on 10 points – fourth and third in the table respectively – ahead of their meeting at the Essity Stadium.

The Silkmen are unbeaten in their four league matches so far – winning three and drawing one – as they attempt to bounce back to the top-flight at the first attempt.

The Bluebirds have continued the momentum from their title-winning season into the new campaign, losing only one of their first five games and claiming an impressive 4-0 win over Mold Alexandra and 5-1 away victory at Prestatyn Town.

The two clubs’ most recent meeting came in the JD Welsh Cup second round last season, when Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro’s second half penalty earned a 1-0 win for Flint.

JD Cymru South – Afan Lido v Briton Ferry Llansawel (Friday, 7:30pm)

It may only be six weeks into the season, but Briton Ferry Llansawel’s trip to Afan Lido could have an early influence on the JD Cymru South title race.

Andy Hill’s side have won all five of their league matches so far, scoring 18 goals and conceding just three to sit top of the table.

Meanwhile, Lido sit two points behind in second place. Paul Evans’ team won their opening four games before a 1-1 draw away at fellow unbeaten side Cambrian & Clydach Vale in their most recent league outing.

Josh Webber scored a 95th-minute winner as Afan Lido triumphed 3-2 when the two clubs last met in November 2022.
