JD Cymru Premier round-up | Tom Creamer’s screamer earns Colwyn Bay first top-flight point

Connah’s Quay Nomads responded to their opening day defeat against The New Saints with a 4-0 victory over Aberystwyth Town at their new Essity Stadium home on Friday night.

All of the goals came in the first half as teenager Josh Williams netted twice alongside one each for Callum Bratley and summer signing Jordan Davies. The Nomads maintained their clean sheet after the break despite a red card for Bratley on 69 minutes.

Penybont made it consecutive wins by triumphing 2-0 over Haverfordwest County at the SDM Glass Stadium on Friday. Lewis Harling’s looping header put them a goal up at half-time, while Kane Owen doubled the lead late on with a composed, lobbed effort that beat Zac Jones.

Caernarfon Town also ensured they took maximum points from their first two matches with a 2-1 home win against Newtown on Friday.

Phil Mooney’s 40th-minute goal looked to be the decisive moment in the game before summer arrival Louis Lloyd scored in second half stoppage time after Adam Davies had been sent off. It proved to be crucial as Aaron Williams pulled one back for the Robins.

Reigning champions TNS left it late to claim three points away at Pontypridd United on Saturday, with Dan Williams – signed permanently from Swansea City in the summer – netting a 79th-minute goal to secure a 1-0 victory.

Newly-promoted duo Barry Town United and Colwyn Bay each got their first point on the board in a 1-1 draw at Jenner Park.

The hosts’ summer signing Sam Snaith opened his account for the club with a clever finish in the 12th minute, but Tom Creamer equalised in sensational style just after the hour mark as he hit a beautifully struck volley from 45 yards out to lob Mike Lewis.

Cardiff Met and Bala Town both earned wins on the opening weekend of the campaign, but they had to settle for a point in a goalless draw at Cyncoed Campus. Nathan Peate had perhaps the best chance of the game as he hit the post with a header.
