JD Cymru South round-up | Llanelli Town stage comeback to win seven-goal thriller

Llanelli Town staged a stunning comeback to beat local rivals Carmarthen Town 4-3 on Friday night. Liam Thomas scored a hat-trick to put the Old Gold 3-1 up just before the hour mark, but Sean Cronin, Adam Robbins and Josh Allen all found the net to delight the home crowd at Stebonheath.

Afan Lido and Ammanford had both taken maximum points from their first three games before their meeting on Friday night, but it was the Reds who continued their winning streak with a 4-2 triumph.

Ammanford led 2-1 from early in the second half until the 83rd minute when Liam Griffiths equalised, before further late goals from John Hall and Ieuan Owen ensured that Lido continued their perfect start to the campaign.

Briton Ferry Llansawel are the only other side with 12 points from a possible 12 following their 3-0 away win at Abertillery Bluebirds on Saturday afternoon. Kris Evans and Tom Walters both scored in the first half before Josh Bull found the net in the second period just five minutes after coming off the bench.

Pontardawe Town had lost their first three games of the campaign but they got off the mark in style with a 5-1 win away at Trefelin on Saturday. Callum Silcox netted a first half brace before Joseph Lloyd, Artiom Legavec and Iwan McNab got in on the act in the second half.

Goytre United also got their first points of the season in a 2-1 comeback victory away at Taffs Well on Friday. Ellis Sage opened the scoring in just the second minute for the Wellmen, but Jordan Edwards equalised after 77 minutes and substitute Cameron Harris netted the winner in the second minute of stoppage time.

Baglan Dragons also came from behind as they continued their impressive start to life in the JD Cymru South with a 3-2 win away at Abergavenny Town on Friday night.

Joe Cashman earned the Pennies a 1-0 lead at half-time after Mathew Stanton had saved Curtis Methven’s penalty, before Luke Evans equalised two minutes into the second period and Leon Croucher and Jordan Evans completed the turnaround. Paolo Marenghi’s first goal for Abergavenny in stoppage time was not enough to save the hosts, who remain without a point.

Liam Reed starred for Cambrian & Clydach Vale in their 3-1 away win at Caerau Ely on Friday, scoring twice to take Richie Ryan’s side onto 10 points from the opening four matches of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Alex Bonthron bagged a brace of his own to earn Cwmbran Celtic a 2-1 home win over Llantwit Major on Saturday. Both of his goals came inside the first 40 minutes before Rob Jones’ penalty halved the deficit on the stroke of half-time, but the Major – who sacked Stevie McCarthy-Campbell on Friday – could not find an equaliser.
