JD Cymru South round-up | Ammanford complete stunning late comeback

Ammanford staged a remarkable late comeback to win 3-2 against Abertillery Bluebirds on Tuesday night and maintain their 100% record in the JD Cymru South this season.

The newly-promoted side led 2-0 at half-time, with Christian Mbongompasi and Iwan John scoring the club’s first ever JD Cymru Leagues goals, but Ammanford substitute Mark Jones netted an incredible 10-minute hat-trick to turn the game around – with the winner coming in the 89th minute.

Briton Ferry Llansawel went top of the table at this early stage with a 5-0 thrashing of Trefelin. Andy Hill’s side were four goals up at half-time through Declan Evans, Tom Walters, Tyler Brock and Kris Evans before substitute Josh Bull wrapped up the win in the second period.

Llanelli Town were beaten at Old Road on the opening weekend but they bounced back to claim their first points of the season in a 4-1 victory over Goytre United. Summer signings David Lyon and Sam Johnson both scored twice, while Goytre’s consolation came through Cameron Harris.

Afan Lido came from behind to win 3-1 at home against Caerau Ely. Ieuan Owen was sent off in the first half for Lido before a Jack Ashford penalty gave the visitors the lead, but the Young Guns were also reduced to 10 men just before the hour mark as Tom McLean received a second yellow card. It gave the initiative to the hosts, who turned the game around through Norton Ferreira, Liam McCreesh and Josh Webber.

Llantwit Major left it late to get their first win of the new campaign as substitute Bobby Jones scored in the 80thminute to beat Abergavenny Town. Paolo Marenghi had the chance to equalise for the Pennies, but missed a penalty against his former club.

Newly-promoted Baglan Dragons earned an impressive 0-0 draw away at Carmarthen Town, meaning both sides sit on four points from the opening two matches of the campaign.

It also ended level between Cambrian & Clydach Vale and Taffs Well. Josh Pope’s first half goal gave the Wellmen the lead, before Shane Davies found a second half equaliser.
