JD Cymru Leagues games to watch | 8 August

Following the weekend’s Nathaniel MG Cup second round action, the JD Cymru North and JD Cymru South return on Tuesday night for matchday two. Here are the key games to keep an eye on.

JD Cymru North – Buckley Town v Airbus UK Broughton (Tuesday, 7:30pm)

Buckley Town have won all three of their matches so far this season under new boss Jason Aldcroft, progressing past Mold Alexandra and Denbigh Town in the Nathaniel MG Cup either side of beating Chirk AAA 1-0 on the opening weekend of the JD Cymru North.

The Bucks host Flintshire neighbours Airbus UK Broughton in the first midweek action of the new campaign, with the Wingmakers hoping to recover from a 5-0 defeat to Colwyn Bay in the Nathaniel MG Cup on Saturday.

There is also a new man in the hotseat for Airbus, with Mark Allen appointed following the club’s relegation from the JD Cymru Premier last term.

Only Bangor 1876 won by more goals on the JD Cymru North opening weekend than Allen’s side, who triumphed 3-0 over Guilsfield thanks to goals from George Peers, Craig Lindfield and Jake Eyre.

JD Cymru South – Afan Lido v Caerau Ely (Tuesday, 7:30pm)

Afan Lido made an impressive start to the JD Cymru South season with a 3-0 win over Abertillery Bluebirds on the opening weekend and they now face another newly-promoted side in the shape of Caerau Ely.

But the Young Guns, in their first season at this level since 2020, also started the league campaign in electric fashion as they triumphed 4-0 against Abergavenny Town.

The two clubs had mixed fortunes in the Nathaniel MG Cup over the weekend, with Afan Lido knocking out top-flight Penybont on penalties and Caerau Ely suffering defeat to Swansea City.
