JD Cymru North round-up | Bangor 1876 make blistering start

Newly-promoted Bangor 1876 introduced themselves to the JD Cymru North in stunning style as they thrashed Llanidloes Town 6-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Corrig McGonigle, who scored 37 goals in the Ardal North West last season, netted a hat-trick, while there were also goals for summer signing Sam Jones, midfielder Corey Jones and substitute Henry Galeotti.

Fellow newly-promoted side Caersws also claimed three points as they triumphed 2-1 on home turf against Llandudno. Summer signing Rhys Hesden opened the scoring only to see Danny Holland equalise with a penalty, but 16-year-old substitute Callum Francis Jones provided the winner with just four minutes left on the clock.

Following their relegation from the JD Cymru Premier last season, Airbus UK Broughton will have hopes of replicating their 2021/22 title win and they opened with a 3-0 win over Guilsfield. All the goals came in the second half from George Peers, Craig Lindfield and Jake Eyre.

Flint Town United have also come down from the top-flight and they too were victorious on Saturday afternoon, beating newly-promoted Denbigh Town 2-1. After Tom Weir’s debut league goal cancelled out teenager Harley Brindley-Peagram’s header in the first half, Jake Reeves struck in the 57th minute to earn three points for the Silkmen.

Last season’s runners-up Holywell Town recovered from defeat in the Nathaniel MG Cup last weekend by claiming a 1-0 victory against Porthmadog. James Graham’s first half strike decided the contest.

There was a debut goal at Bastion Gardens, where Prestatyn Town’s summer signing Karl Clair scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Gresford Athletic.

There was plenty of drama at the Memorial Playing Fields on Friday night as Mold Alexandra triumphed 2-1 against Ruthin Town. Both sides missed a penalty each and ended the game with 10 men after Mold’s Henry Nash and Ruthin’s Tom Dyer were sent off. The decisive moment came in the 81st minute when Danny Warren scored the winning goal.

Friday night’s early kick-off saw Buckley Town emerge as 1-0 winners away at Chirk AAA. The Bucks’ top scorer last season Jake Roberts netted the only goal of the game in the 13th minute.
