Voting is now open for the 2022/23 JD Cymru South awards. You have until 12pm on Friday 12 May to select your Manager of the Season, Young Player of the Season and Player of the Season.
The winners will be announced alongside the Team of the Season on Saturday 20 May.
MANAGER OF THE SEASON
Lee John – Llanelli Town
Following a ninth-place finish 2021/22, Lee John transformed Llanelli Town into title contenders by taking 20 points from the first 24 available this season. Although the Reds eventually had to settle for second place, there will be hope that promotion is on the cards at Stebonheath next year.
Lee Kendall – Barry Town United
It is never easy following a club figurehead, but Lee Kendall has overseen a smooth and successful transition at Barry Town United after replacing Gavin Chesterfield in November. The Linnets did not lose any of their 19 league games under his watch and won the title by 16 points.
Garry Taylor – Pontardawe Town
Having previously been Pontardawe Town captain, Garry Taylor was entrusted to lead the club in their first season back in the second tier in seven years. He succeeded with flying colours as Ponty finished ninth, 10 points above the drop zone after winning their last four matches in succession.
YOUNG PLAYER OF THE SEASON
Noah Daley – Carmarthen Town
After starting the season five goals in his first three games, it was clear that Noah Daley was set for a special year. The 21-year-old entertained Carmarthen Town’s fans with his electric and clinical displays across the frontline, finishing the campaign with 19 goals.
Ben Keen – Afan Lido
Despite only turning 21 in January, Ben Keen has established himself as one of the first names on Afan Lido’s team sheet thanks to several impressive displays in the centre of midfield. The metronome that keeps his side ticking over, Keen also chipped in with five goals across the season.
Lewis Reed – Pontardawe Town
After suffering relegation with Port Talbot last season, Lewis Reed was on a mission to ensure the same fate did not happen to Pontardawe Town this term. A focal point in attack, his 15 goals – including two hat-tricks – and four assists helped Ponty survive the drop by 10 points.
PLAYER OF THE SEASON
Luke Bowen – Briton Ferry Llansawel
Now 34 years old, Luke Bowen appears to simply be getting better with age and 2022/23 has seen him record his best ever goal tally for a season – 27 in 25 matches. A five-goal haul against Abergavenny in December was undoubtedly a highlight.
Sean Cronin – Llanelli Town
A summer signing from Goytre United, veteran defender Sean Cronin instantly tightened up Llanelli Town’s defence as they conceded just three goals in his first nine appearances. The rock solid performances continued throughout the campaign as the Reds registered 11 clean sheets with Cronin in the team, while he also scored five times at the other end.
Kayne Mclaggon – Barry Town United
Having been a consistent scorer in the JD Cymru Premier, there was no doubt that Kayne Mclaggon would hit the ground running in the second tier. But to end the campaign with a staggering 34 goals in 27 games, including four hat-tricks, surpassed even the highest of expectations.
