JD Cymru South | Weekend round-up

Llanelli Town secured second place in the JD Cymru South with a 4-0 away win over relegated Trefelin on the final day of the season.

Eli Phipps and Tom Hillman gave the Reds a two-goal advantage at the break, before Owen Bancroft and Josh Allen found the net in the second period.

The other big winners on Saturday afternoon were Pontardawe Town, who ended the campaign with a fourth successive victory by triumphing 5-2 over Taffs Well to confirm ninth place.

Three goals in 14 minutes in the first half from Gabe Kircough, Josh Dorward and Tim Georgievsky gave Ponty a commanding lead before Jan Maertins grabbed one back on the stroke of half-time. Lewis Reed and substitute Ollie O’Brien struck within four minutes of each other in the second half to add to the hosts’ tally, while Taffs Well teenager Christian Politi grabbed his second goal in as many games late on.

Carmarthen Town lost out on fourth place on the final day of last season, but they ensured the same did not happen this year as they won 2-0 over Ynyshir Albions on Friday night. Greg Walters scored just before half-time and Lewis Rocke doubled the advantage just two minutes after the break.

Swansea University’s relegation was confirmed following their penultimate game of the season, but they waved goodbye to the JD Cymru South with three points by beating Cambrian & Clydach Vale 1-0. George Sellick scored the only goal of the game, lobbing opposition goalkeeper Morgan Davies from the edge of the box midway through the second half.

Llantwit Major and Goytre United took a point each from their final day meeting at the Windmill, which ended 1-1. Owain Edwards opened the scoring for the hosts, but his effort was cancelled out by former Major forward Josh Jones.

Swansea University 1-0 Cambrian & Clydach Vale
