JD Cymru North round-up | Inspired substitution sees leaders Airbus overcome Mold test

Airbus UK Broughton continued to set the pace at the top of the JD Cymru North table with a 3-0 victory over fourth-place Mold Alexandra at Alyn Park on Saturday.

The two sides were deadlocked at 0-0 at half-time, but James Davies came off the bench at the break for the Wingmakers and proved to be a game-changer.

The forward won his side a penalty in the 52nd minute which was calmly converted by George Peers and just ten minutes later, Davies set up Craig Lindfield to double Airbus’ lead.

Davies then found the scoresheet himself to wrap things up in the 71st minute, receiving Ollie Lanceley’s flick before beating two Mold defenders and firing beyond Alex Swindell. Mark Allen’s side are now unbeaten in their last 13 league matches.

With Holywell Town’s fixture against Ruthin Town postponed, Flint Town United moved up to second with a 4-2 home win over Bangor 1876 on Saturday.

The Silkmen were awarded a penalty in the 15th minute after Bangor goalkeeper Huw Shaw’s foul on Josh Jones and the winger stepped up to convert from twelve yards before he set up Elliott Reeves to add a second from close range.

JD Cymru North top goalscorer Corrie McGonigle netted a penalty in first half stoppage time to give Bangor hope heading into the second half, but Reeves turned provider for Jones to complete his brace early in the second period.

Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro headed home a fourth goal for Flint on 75 minutes, which ultimately put the game to bed despite McGonigle scoring from the penalty spot again late on. Lee Fowler’s side remain four points behind Airbus, but have two games in hand.

Porthmadog secured a vital victory in their fight for survival as they defeated fellow strugglers Llanidloes Town 2-1 at Victoria Park on Saturday.

Teenager Caio Evans scored his first ever senior goal to put Port ahead in the ninth minute and the lead was doubled two minutes before the interval as Rhys Alun Williams timed his run perfectly to meet Gethin Thomas’ low cross and tap home into the back of the net.

Daffs defender Elliot Jones had his penalty saved by Ollie Farebrother five minutes after the restart, but the home side halved the deficit two minutes later through Adam Worton, who found the top corner with a superb free-kick on the edge of the box. Nonetheless, Port held on to make it back-to-back wins.

However, Steve Williams’ side remain in the relegation zone and three points adrift of safety as Prestatyn Town also made it consecutive wins by triumphing 2-1 over bottom side Chirk AAA at Bastion Gardens on Friday.

Connor Whelan’s own goal gave Chirk the lead inside eight minutes, but James Stead scored his first goal since returning to Prestatyn in January with a free-kick from the edge of the box to level the contest in first half stoppage time. Young forward Alfie Vaughan completed the turnaround for the hosts with a cool finish on 57 minutes.

Colliers captain Matty Williams had a perfect chance to draw his side level almost instantly, but he was unable to convert from the penalty spot.

Prestatyn’s Alec Williams was sent off following two yellow cards in quick succession in the final 10 minutes, but the Seasiders held on to claim a crucial three points.

Buckley Town recorded an impressive 5-1 victory against Llandudno at the OPS Wind Arena on Friday night to move up to 10th place in the table.

Max Moore scored his third goal in four games to put the Bucks ahead in the 17th minute before Fabrizio Murtas levelled the game in the first minute of first half stoppage time, but Aled Bellis’ penalty three minutes later restored the away side’s lead at the break.

Josh Jones added a third for Buckley with a superb strike from the edge of the area just four minutes after the restart, while late goals from Liam Driscoll and Connor Littler sealed an emphatic victory on the road for the Flintshire side. .

19-year-old Owen Davies scored a late equaliser as 10-man Denbigh Town played out a 2-2 draw with Guilsfield at Central Park on Saturday.

The Guils drew first blood as Jamie Hyne found the net for his eighth league goal of the season just after the half hour mark, but Denbigh’s TNS loanee Josh Lock levelled the scoreline eight minutes into the second half.

However, the visitors edged back in front through talisman Iwan Matthews, who broke through the Denbigh defence and poked the ball home on 67 minutes.

The hosts’ task appeared to be made harder when Nathan Brown was sent off for violent conduct, but Davies was able to salvage a point after finishing from Kristian Pierce’s delivery in the third minute of stoppage time.

Craig Harris’ late equaliser salvaged a point for Caersws in a 1-1 draw with Gresford Athletic at the Recreation Ground on Saturday.

The breakthrough came early in the second half as a swift breakaway led to Toby Gallagher-Keenan setting up Dominic Deacon, who produced a calm finish to put the Colliers in front.

However, Gresford’s resistance was finally broken as Harris popped up with an 88th minute header to earn his side a point.
