Briton Ferry Llansawel and Mold Alexandra win Welsh Blood Service League Cup regional finals

Briton Ferry Llansawel and Mold Alexandra will meet in the national final of this season’s Welsh Blood Service League Cup after victory in the regional finals on Saturday.

In the Southern final, Ferry triumphed 3-1 over JD Cymru South title rivals Llanelli Town at the Recreation Ground in Ammanford.

An impressive acrobatic finish from Josh Bull put Andy Dyer’s side ahead in the 16th minute, but Llanelli equalised as Danny Williams found the net from a set-piece situation just after the half hour mark.

Ferry top scorer Luke Bowen had started the game on the bench, but he was brought on in the 63rd minute and found the net five minutes later with a fine finish to restore his side’s lead.

Tyler Brock’s 77th-minute goal clinched the trophy and Llanelli would finish the final with 10 men as Kurtis Rees received a second yellow card late on.

It could be the first of three trophies for Briton Ferry this season, as they have the chance to secure the JD Cymru South title next week before competing in the national final of this competition.

Mold Alexandra will be their opponents on Saturday 20 April in Newtown after they earned a 3-1 win over Llandudno in the Northern final in Denbigh.

After a goalless first hour, two quick-fire goals from Steve Monk’s side put them firmly in control of the encounter. Alex Smith broke the deadlock on 61 minutes, before Jake Roberts doubled the advantage five minutes later.

The third goal arrived with just two minutes of the 90 remaining, as teenager Eric Durnell found the net just three minutes after coming on as a substitute.

Ethan Roberts scored a stoppage time consolation for Llandudno, but it was Mold who picked up the trophy to cap an impressive campaign.
