Cardiff City and Swansea City confirmed as Nathaniel MG Cup wildcards for 2023/24

English Football League Championship clubs Cardiff City and Swansea City have been confirmed as the two wildcard entries for the 2023/24 Nathaniel MG Cup.

44 spaces are allocated to the 12 JD Cymru Premier clubs, 16 JD Cymru North clubs and 16 JD Cymru South clubs for the competition, while clubs outside of the top two tiers can apply for a wildcard space. 

It will be a debut in the competition for Swansea City, while it is the second time that Cardiff City will feature after they were selected as a wildcard entry in 2020/21. 

A Bluebirds team containing the likes of Rubin Colwill and Isaak Davies won 2-0 over Taffs Well in the first round before the competition was cancelled for the rest of the campaign due to the Coronavirus pandemic. 

The draw for the first round of the 2023/24 Nathaniel MG Cup – split into Northern and Southern Sections – will take place on Tuesday 27 June and broadcast on the JD Cymru Leagues Facebook page at 7pm. Fixtures will be played on the weekend of 21/22 July.

Two clubs from the JD Cymru South and two clubs from the JD Cymru North will be drawn to receive byes into the second round. The wildcard clubs are exempt from receiving a bye.
