JD Cymru Leagues games to watch | 11-13 August

The JD Cymru Premier kicks off this weekend, while the JD Cymru North and JD Cymru South continue after an electric start to the campaign. Here are the key games to watch in all three leagues.

JD Cymru Premier – Colwyn Bay v Caernarfon Town (Sunday, 5:15pm)

While the JD Cymru Premier begins on Friday night with a meeting between last season’s top two, perhaps the most excitement will be saved for Sunday afternoon.

Colwyn Bay lost just one league game all season as they claimed the JD Cymru North title in 2022/23, earning promotion to the top-flight for the very first time.

They begin the campaign on home turf against Caernarfon Town, with a bumper crowd expected at the Four Crosses Construction Arena.

Richard Davies has taken the Cofis manager’s job on a permanent basis since the end of last season after securing the club’s survival against relegation in the penultimate game of the campaign.

Lloyd Marsh-Hughes scored six league goals for Caernarfon last season but he has made a summer switch to Colwyn Bay and already got off the mark by scoring in the Nathaniel MG Cup last weekend.

Watch Colwyn Bay v Caernarfon live on S4C, with coverage beginning at 5pm on Sunday afternoon.

JD Cymru North – Bangor 1876 v Denbigh Town (Saturday, 2:30pm)

Bangor 1876 and Denbigh Town battled for the title in the Ardal North West last season and they now renew their rivalry in the JD Cymru North.

Denbigh won both league matches between the two clubs last term and lifted the title, while Bangor were forced to earn promotion through the play-off.

But it is Mike Johnston’s side who have hit the ground running in the second tier, winning 6-0 against Llanidloes Town and 4-2 against Llandudno to sit top of the table at this early stage.

Denbigh were beaten by Flint Town United on the opening weekend but bounced back with an emphatic 4-1 win over Caersws on Tuesday night and they sit third in the table ahead of the weekend.

JD Cymru South – Goytre United v Trefelin (Friday, 7:30pm)

There is a local derby in the JD Cymru South on Friday night as Goytre United host Trefelin at Glenhafod Park Stadium.

Both clubs are still in search of their first points of the campaign after losing their opening two matches, so they will see this fixture as a big opportunity.

Goytre United suffered late heartbreak on the opening weekend by conceding a 96th minute goal to lose 3-2 to Cwmbran Celtic, before a 4-1 defeat to Llanelli Town on Tuesday night.

Spared relegation last season, it has been a challenging start to the new campaign for Trefelin who have lost 4-0 to Cambrian & Clydach Vale and 5-0 to Briton Ferry Llansawel.
