JD Cymru Leagues games to watch | 15-16 September

There is a reduced JD Cymru Leagues fixture list this weekend due to the JD Welsh Cup first round, but there are still plenty of matches to keep an eye on.

JD Cymru Premier – Colwyn Bay v Aberystwyth Town (Friday, 7:45pm)

JD Cymru Premier ever-presents Aberystwyth Town make the trip to newly-promoted Colwyn Bay to kick off the weekend on Friday night.

The Seagulls earned their first victory in the top-flight last weekend when Alex Downes’ header proved to be enough to beat Penybont 1-0 at the SDM Glass Stadium.

The three points moved Steve Evans’ side out of the relegation zone into 10th place and now they will be targeting a first home win of the campaign as they aim to build momentum.

Aberystwyth currently sit bottom of the table and are still in search of their first league win of the season after picking up just one point from six matches.

The Seasiders took an early lead against Caernarfon Town last weekend but were ultimately defeated 4-2 by the Cofis at Park Avenue.

Watch Colwyn Bay v Aberystwyth Town on Sgorio’s online platforms and your smart TV from 7:40pm on Friday 15 September.

JD Cymru Premier – Connah’s Quay Nomads v Cardiff Met Saturday, 2:30pm)

Connah’s Quay Nomads are the in-form team in the JD Cymru Premier, winning their last three matches in succession and scoring 11 goals in the process.

A 4-1 win away at Barry Town United last weekend took Neil Gibson’s side to second in the table, while they are now also the highest scorers in the division with 17 goals in six games.

But on Saturday they host the side with the joint-best defence in the JD Cymru Premier as Cardiff Met visit the Essity Stadium after only conceding twice so far in 2023/24.

The Archers are one point behind the Nomads in fifth place, having won three and lost just one of their first six matches of the campaign.

Cardiff Met have won just one of the 22 top-flight meetings between the two clubs – a 2-0 victory at Cyncoed Campus last season. The Nomads would go on to win the remaining three clashes throughout 2022/23.

JD Cymru South – Cwmbran Celtic v Pontardawe Town (Saturday, 2:30pm)

The weekend’s only JD Cymru South fixture sees eighth-place Cwmbran Celtic host 12th-place Pontardawe Town on Saturday afternoon.

It has been a mixed start to the campaign for Celtic, with two wins, two defeats and one draw from five matches. They have become accustomed to late drama, scoring a 96th-minute winner to beat Goytre United, scoring a 101st-minute equaliser to draw with Baglan Dragons and conceding a 91st-minute goal to lose to Abergavenny Town last weekend.

Pontardawe also conceded in the 91st minute last weekend, as Abertillery Bluebirds netted an equaliser in a 2-2 draw. It left Garry Taylor’s side above the relegation zone only on goal difference after just one win in their first five games.

James Kinsella’s team won both meetings between the two clubs last season, including a 6-0 victory at Celtic Park in November.
