JD Cymru Leagues games to watch | 16-17 February

With no JD Cymru Premier fixtures this weekend due to the JD Welsh Cup quarter-finals, it’s all eyes on the second tier. Here are the key games to watch.

JD Cymru North – Ruthin Town v Llandudno (Friday, 7:30pm)

Ruthin Town and Llandudno meet on Friday night after both sides netted late winning goals in the JD Cymru North last weekend.

Jason Clark was the hero in the 86th minute for Ruthin as they came from behind to win 2-1 away at Chirk AAA, while Llandudno staged an even more remarkable turnaround as they triumphed 3-2 against Porthmadog despite trailing 2-0 until the 84th minute.

The two teams now both sit on 25 points – 10 above the relegation zone – which is a particular achievement for the Seasiders given that they looked stranded in the bottom three earlier in the campaign.

There were also late goals when Llandudno won 2-1 in the reverse fixture in November. Gwion Owen thought he had rescued a point for Ruthin with an 86th-minute equaliser, but Liam Ellis bagged the winner for Jordan Hadaway’s side in the 95th minute.

JD Cymru South – Baglan Dragons v Ammanford (Saturday, 2pm)

The two most in-form teams in JD Cymru South go head-to-head on Saturday afternoon as Baglan Dragons host Ammanford.

The Dragons are in a magnificent purple patch, having won their last five matches in succession and conceding just one goal in that time. Carl Clement’s side have moved up to sixth place in the process, three points behind Ammanford in fifth.

The Black and White Army have won their last three games and thrashed Goytre United 6-2 last weekend. With games in hand over sides above them, Gruff Harrison’s men will have ambitions of climbing even higher in the table.

Baglan Dragons goalkeeper Mathew Stanton scored a dramatic 88th-minute equaliser to salvage a 2-2 draw for his side in December’s reverse league fixture.
