JD Cymru Leagues games to watch | 19-20 January

While the top-flight takes a break this weekend, there is still plenty of action to look forward to in the second tier. Here are the key games to watch.

JD Cymru North – Airbus UK Broughton v Flint Town United (Saturday, 2pm)

The JD Cymru North’s top two Airbus UK Broughton and Flint Town United will go head to head at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium on Saturday in a much-anticipated clash in the title race.

Both sides dropped points last weekend as Airbus salvaged a 3-3 draw at Caersws whereas Flint Town were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Guilsfield, so this is the perfect chance for either side to get back on track and make a statement at the top of the table.

Airbus are currently one point better off in first place, but second-place Flint have three games in hand which could prove crucial in their pursuit of promotion. Lee Fowler’s side are the only unbeaten side left in the JD Cymru North this season, having not lost any of their 17 matches so far.

While both teams will do battle against each other, they will both be hoping for a slip up from fellow title challengers Holywell Town in their home fixture against sixth-place Bangor 1876, which kicks off at the same time.

Joe Williams’ first goal for Flint proved to be decisive last time against the Wingmakers as the Silkmen secured a narrow 1-0 victory back in October.

JD Cymru South – Cwmbran Celtic v Abertillery Bluebirds (Saturday, 2pm)

Abertillery Bluebirds will aim to build on their 1-1 draw with Llanelli Town when they travel to Celtic Park to take on seventh-place Cwmbran Celtic on Saturday afternoon.

The Bluebirds have won just once all season and are 13 points adrift of safety in the JD Cymru South, but a point against the title-challenging Reds last weekend will give them hope that they can pull off the great escape.

Seventh-place Cwmbran Celtic will look to return to winning ways on home turf after they suffered a 4-2 defeat away to Caerau Ely last weekend.

Striker Alex Bonthron received the JD Cymru South Player of the Month award in midweek following his incredible goalscoring spell throughout December, so he will be eager to continue his rich vein of form.

Bonthron was on the scoresheet during the last meeting between these two sides as his goal, along with Tom Meechan’s brace and Dom Connor’s finish secured a 4-1 victory for Celtic in October’s reverse league fixture.
