JD Cymru Leagues games to watch | 20-21 October

Following last weekend’s JD Welsh Cup ties, the attention now turns back to all three divisions in the JD Cymru Leagues. Here are the key matches to watch.

JD Cymru Premier – Barry Town United v The New Saints (Saturday, 2:30pm)

After a week packed with cup action, The New Saints turn their attentions back to the JD Cymru Premier this weekend as they visit Barry Town United.

Craig Harrison’s side have progressed in both the SPFL Trust Trophy and the JD Welsh Cup in the last seven days, while they remain top of the JD Cymru Premier table – three points clear of second-place Connah’s Quay Nomads who they now have a game in hand over.

However, Barry are one of just two clubs to take points off TNS so far this season as they came from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw at Park Hall with Kayne Mclaggon scoring a 96th-minute equaliser.

Steve Jenkins’ side moved out of the relegation zone with a 2-0 home win over Pontypridd United, which was their first league clean sheet of the campaign and a second successive win after progressing past Porthcawl Town Athletic in the JD Welsh Cup.

JD Cymru North – Holywell Town v Gresford Athletic (Saturday, 2:30pm)

Two of the JD Cymru North’s most in-form sides meet at the Achieve More Stadium on Saturday as Holywell Town host Gresford Athletic.

The Wellmen are currently top of the table and one of only two unbeaten clubs in the division after picking up 22 points from the first 24 available. However, they suffered a shock 3-1 defeat against third tier Flint Mountain in the JD Welsh Cup last weekend.

Meanwhile, Gresford have won their last four league matches in succession to rise from the relegation zone up to sixth place. Their hot streak also includes four victories in cup competitions, most recently a 3-1 triumph away at Llanidloes Town in the JD Welsh Cup.

Holywell have won the last three meetings between the two clubs, with Dave Forbes finding the net on all of those occasions.

JD Cymru South – Llantwit Major v Ammanford (Saturday, 2:30pm)

Rivals Llantwit Major and Ammanford meet at Lôn Melin Wynt following contrasting seasons so far.

Ammanford’s impressive start to the campaign has seem them win six of their nine league games so far. They sit fourth in the table, just two points behind leaders Briton Ferry Llansawel, and knocked Trefelin out of the JD Welsh Cup on penalties last weekend.

Llantwit Major are still looking for their first win under Ben Stait, having slipped into the JD Cymru South relegation zone in recent weeks before a 4-0 defeat to Llanelli Town in the JD Welsh Cup last Friday.

Jay Thomas scored twice as Ammanford won a thrilling game 3-2 when the two sides last met in April, but their last two encounters at Lôn Melin Wynt have ended level.
