JD Cymru Leagues games to watch | 25-28 August

There is a full schedule of action across all three divisions this weekend, including plenty of action on Bank Holiday Monday. Here are the pick of the fixtures.

JD Cymru Premier – Haverfordwest County v Caernarfon Town (Saturday, 2:30pm)

Following their impressive performances in Europe, Haverfordwest County will have had high hopes for this JD Cymru Premier campaign but it has been a tricky start for the Bluebirds.

They drew 0-0 with Pontypridd United on the opening weekend before a 2-0 defeat to Penybont last Friday, leading boss Tony Pennock to say his squad need “to realise how tough this division is”.

In contrast, Caernarfon Town have been one of the standout sides in the opening fortnight of the season by claiming two wins from two games to sit second in the table.

After a stunning 4-0 win away at newly-promoted Colwyn Bay in their first game, Richard Davies’ team triumphed 2-1 over Newtown on home turf last weekend.

Caernarfon have won four of the last six meetings between the two clubs, with Haverfordwest claiming just one victory in that time – Jordan Davies scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win at Ogi Bridge Meadow in phase one last season.

JD Cymru North – Holywell Town v Mold Alexandra (Monday, 2:30pm)

After pushing Colwyn Bay all the way for the JD Cymru North title last season, Holywell Town are desperate not to be denied silverware this time around.

Johnny Haseldin’s side have won all three of their opening league games, scoring eight goals and conceding only two. A 5-1 away win at Denbigh Town last weekend was their biggest statement of intent yet.

Fellow Flintshire side Mold Alexandra make the short trip to the Achieve More Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday after also starting the campaign strongly.

The Alex became the first side this season to take points off Bangor 1876 with a 3-1 win over the newly-promoted side last weekend, taking their own points tally to six from a possible nine.

Holywell were 2-0 winners in both meetings between the two clubs last season, with defender Zebb Edwards a goalscorer in each match.

JD Cymru South – Cambrian & Clydach Vale v Afan Lido (Monday, 2:30pm)

Afan Lido stand as one of just two clubs – along with Briton Ferry Llansawel – to still have a perfect record in the JD Cymru South this season.

Last weekend, Lido came from behind to win 4-2 against Ammanford (who had also not dropped points before that game) to move onto 12 points from a possible 12.

Their next challenge is a trip to Cambrian & Clydach Vale, who are also yet to lose in the league this season – winning three games and drawing one.

All three of their victories have come away from home, with Liam Reed scoring twice in a 3-1 triumph at newly-promoted Caerau Ely last weekend.

Lido must end a wretched run against Cambrian & Clydach if they are to continue their winning streak, as they are winless in their last five meetings against the Rhondda outfit.
