JD Cymru Leagues Games to Watch: 31 October – 1 November

The days may be getting colder, but it’s hotting up everywhere you look across the JD Cymru Leagues. Here are this weekend’s key games to keep an eye on.

JD Cymru Premier – Colwyn Bay v Barry Town United (Saturday, 5:15pm)

Colwyn Bay will aim to strengthen their place in the JD Cymru Premier top six when they host Barry Town United at The Blue Turtle Arena on Saturday evening, live on Sgorio.

The Seagulls are currently fifth in the table, five points clear of Barry in seventh, having kept four consecutive league clean sheets to take 10 points from the last 12 available. First half goals from Jordan Davies and Sol Forde earned a 2-0 victory away at Briton Ferry Llansawel weekend, but George Hughes’ red card in that game means he is suspended on Saturday.

Colwyn Bay v Barry Town United

Barry’s goalless draw at Bala Town last weekend means they are winless in their last five league matches ahead of their second consecutive trip to north Wales. Steve Jenkins’ side could end the weekend in the top six though, if they are victorious and Cardiff Met drop points against Connah’s Quay Nomads.

The two sides shared the points in August’s reverse fixture as Robbie Willmott cancelled out Aaron Williams’ opener in a 1-1 draw at Jenner Park. It was the third time that it had finished in five league meetings between the teams.

JD Cymru Premier – Cardiff Met v Connah’s Quay Nomads (Saturday, 2:30pm)

Another key battle in the race for the top half awaits in the capital as Cardiff Met host Connah’s Quay Nomads after both went unbeaten through October.

Met were winless in their first nine league matches of the season, but they have impressively turned their form around to currently sixth in the table. A 4-1 home win over Flint Town United last weekend, in which they scored three goals in the final 11 minutes of the contest, made it 13 points from the last 15 available.

It finished 1-1 between Connah’s Quay Nomads and Cardiff Met in September’s reverse fixture

A run of three consecutive wins against Llanelli Town, Bala Town and Briton Ferry Llansawel saw the Nomads climb up to fourth in the table, six points clear of seventh place, before they were denied a perfect record in October last weekend as they squandered a 3-1 lead to draw 3-3 with Haverfordwest County.

Jake Morris cancelled out Jack Kenny’s opener as the two sides shared the points in a 1-1 draw in September’s reverse fixture. Met have failed to keep a clean sheet in the last 10 meetings between the two teams.

JD Cymru North – Llandudno v Airbus UK Broughton (Friday, 7:45pm)

A mouth-watering clash awaits at the Go Goodwins Stadium on Friday night, as title rivals Airbus UK Broughton and Llandudno go head-to-head.

Both sides are yet to lose in the league this season, with Airbus are currently top of the table on goal difference and third-place Llandudno sitting one point behind but with a game in hand.

The Seasiders came from two goals down to earn a 3-2 victory away at Buckley Town last weekend, with substitute Dylan Proctor scoring a stoppage time winner. Jordan Hadaway’s side have won their last seven league games in succession and have the best defence in the JD Cymru North this season, conceding just three goals in 10 matches.

Airbus earned their biggest victory of the season with a 6-0 win at home against Rhyl 1879 last weekend, ensuring they stayed top of the table on goal difference ahead of Holywell Town. The Wingmakers are the division’s highest scorers this term, netting 36 goals so far.

Airbus were victorious in all three meetings between the two sides last season as 5-0 and 2-1 league wins came either side of a 3-1 victory in the Welsh Blood Service League Cup.

JD Cymru South – Cambrian United v Cardiff Draconians (Saturday, 2pm)

JD Cymru South leaders Cambrian United host fourth-place Cardiff Draconians at the M&P Group 3G on Saturday afternoon.

The Rhondda side returned to the top of the table with a 4-2 comeback win away at Pontypridd United last weekend, inspired by a brace from Liam Eason who has now 11 league goals for the campaign. Liam Williams’ men are currently two points clear of second-place Caerau Ely, who have a game in hand.

Cardiff Draconians are unbeaten in their last nine matches in all competitions and have taken 13 points from the last 15 available in the JD Cymru South. Nana Baah’s side, who earned a 3-0 home win over Trethomas Bluebirds last weekend, sit five points off top spot.

Cambrian have conceded just three goals in six home matches in the JD Cymru South so far this season, while the Dracs are searching for a third consecutive league clean sheet for the first time since 2021.
