JD Cymru Leagues Games to Watch: 4-5 April

Buckley's Nick Grogan is pressured by Ruthin's Sam Jones during Ruthin Town vs Buckley Town in Round 10 of the JD Cymru North at Maes Tegid, Bala

The penultimate weekend of the JD Cymru North and JD Cymru South is upon us, with plenty left to be decided at both ends of the JD Cymru Leagues tables.

Here are the key games to keep an eye on.

JD Cymru North – Buckley Town v Ruthin Town (Friday, 7:45pm)

Ruthin Town will be relegated from the JD Cymru North this weekend if their result away at Buckley Town on Friday night is bettered by Bangor 1876 at home against Caersws on Saturday.

A response is needed from Ruthin after they were beaten 7-0 away at Airbus UK Broughton last weekend, leaving them three points adrift of safety. Dave Evans’ side have won just once in their last eight league games. A huge clash awaits if they can take the relegation battle to the final day as they will host Bangor.

Buckley’s 3-2 comeback victory over Llandudno last weekend confirmed a top half finish, but they were beaten 2-1 at home by Mold Alexandra on Tuesday night to make it four games without a win at The Globe.

Connor Littler was the hero for Buckley against Ruthin back in October as the striker’s late goal secured a 1-0 win for the Flintshire side.

JD Cymru North – Colwyn Bay v Llandudno (Saturday, 2:30pm)

At the other end of the JD Cymru North table, there is potential for Colwyn Bay to secure the title on Saturday if they win at home against Llandudno and second-place Airbus UK Broughton lose at home against Mold Alexandra.

The table-topping Seagulls have won their last seven league games in succession and currently hold a one-point advantage over the Wingmakers, who triumphed 2-0 against Penrhyncoch in their game-in-hand in midweek.

Llandudno will be eager to dent their local rivals’ title hopes and head to the Four Crosses Construction Arena having won their last six away games in a row. However, they will be hoping to bounce back from a 3-2 home defeat against Buckley Town last weekend.

The Seasiders are one of just four teams to take points off Bay in the league this season as Lee Stokes’ late equaliser cancelled out Craig Lindfield’s opener in August’s 1-1 draw between the two sides.

JD Cymru South – Cambrian United v Llanelli Town (Friday, 7:45pm)

Llanelli Town will clinch the JD Cymru South title if they are victorious away to Cambrian United on Friday night.

The Reds dropped points in a 1-1 draw at home against Afan Lido, but their four-point lead at the top of the table remained intact as second-place Trethomas Bluebirds were held to a goalless stalemate by Cambrian.

A draw will be enough to see Llanelli crowned champions if Trethomas fail to beat Afan Lido, while the Reds would even secure the trophy should they lose in the Rhondda and the Bluebirds are also beaten.

Cambrian are unbeaten in their last four league matches, keeping clean sheets in their last three. Liam Williams’ side are currently seventh in the table, with their sights set on a top half finish for a fourth consecutive season.

Nothing could separate the two sides in December’s reverse fixture at Stebonheath as Danny Williams cancelled out Tom Hillman’s early opener in a 1-1 draw.
