JD Cymru Leagues games to watch | 6-7 October

The first weekend of October is set to provide plenty of enticing matches across the JD Cymru Leagues. Preview the key encounters below.

JD Cymru Premier – Newtown v Caernarfon Town (Saturday, 2:30pm)

Newtown and Caernarfon Town finished sixth and ninth respectively in the JD Cymru Premier last season, but both are currently on track for much better campaigns.

The Robins sit third in the table following six consecutive league wins. They have kept clean sheets in four of those matches, while forward Aaron Williams has six goals in five games at the other end of the pitch.

Caernarfon are two points further back in fourth place, having won half of their 10 matches so far. They triumphed 3-0 away at Barry Town United last weekend but have not secured consecutive victories since the opening fortnight of the campaign.

Richard Davies’ side won 2-1 against Newtown in the reverse fixture in August, which halted an eight-match losing streak for the Cofis against the Robins.

JD Cymru North – Flint Town United v Airbus UK Broughton (Saturday, 2:30pm)

Flintshire sides have dominated the JD Cymru North this season and two of them meet on Saturday afternoon when Flint Town United host Airbus UK Broughton.

Both clubs were relegated from the top-flight last season but have made strong starts to their bids to get back there at the first attempt.

Flint remain unbeaten in the league and sit third in the table on 17 points, while Airbus are one point better off in second place.

The Silkmen have won all of the last six meetings between the two clubs, including a 4-3 victory in the Welsh Blood Service League Cup first round at the start of September.

JD Cymru South – Briton Ferry Llansawel v Goytre United (Friday, 7:30pm)

A 3-0 win for Briton Ferry Llansawel against Abergavenny Town last Friday took the Reds back to the top of the JD Cymru South less than a week after Andy Hill was sacked as manager.

As Ferry continue to search for Hill’s successor, they host neighbours Goytre United who are also currently without a permanent manager.

Karl Lewis departed Glenhafod Park Stadium in mid-September and interim boss Laurie Marsh has since led the team to a pair of impressive 1-0 wins against Ammanford and Cambrian & Clydach Vale. As a result, the Goyt are up to ninth place.

Goytre United came from two goals down to win 3-2 when the teams last met in January, after Ferry had triumphed 4-1 in the reverse fixture six days earlier.
