JD Cymru Leagues Games to Watch: 8-10 November

Here are the key matches to keep an eye on this weekend, with implications at both ends of the JD Cymru Leagues tables.

JD Cymru Premier – Penybont v Flint Town United (Saturday, 2:30pm)

Current JD Cymru Premier leaders Penybont will look to build on their impressive 5-1 victory away at Caernarfon Town last weekend when they host Flint Town United on Saturday afternoon.

Bont’s return to winning ways against the Cofis last weekend was crucial for Rhys Griffiths’ side as they maintained their four-point lead over second-placed The New Saints, who have two games in hand.

Flint are hoping to bounce back from a 4-1 defeat at Haverfordwest County last weekend, and the Silkmen – currently sat in 10th place – are desperate for a turnaround in form as they sit just three points above the relegation zone.

The reverse fixture between these two sides in September saw Owen Pritchard’s stunner give Bont a 1-0 away win at the Essity Stadium.

JD Cymru Premier – Barry Town United v Connah’s Quay Nomads (Saturday, 2:30pm)

Barry Town United host Connah’s Quay Nomads on Saturday afternoon in a key clash in the battle for a top six spot.

Barry – currently in fifth place – made it three straight league wins with a 2-1 victory away to Flint Town United a fortnight ago, but their winning run came to an end last weekend with a 4-1 home defeat against The New Saints.

After a disappointing start to the season, the Nomads have put themselves back into contention for a top half spot with two wins from their last three matches. A 1-0 home win over Cardiff Met last weekend moved them up to eighth, just two points behind sixth-place Caernarfon Town.

Barry stunned the Nomads in September’s reverse fixture as Ollie Hulbert’s second half brace was enough to secure a 2-1 comeback victory on the road.

JD Cymru North – Caersws v Flint Mountain (Saturday, 2pm)

After an emphatic 8-0 win over Prestatyn Town last weekend, Caersws are hoping to continue their red-hot form in the JD Cymru North at home to Flint Mountain on Saturday afternoon.

The Bluebirds have been one of the standout performers in recent weeks, winning three of their last four league matches to rise to sixth place in the table.

Mountain are currently one point behind Caersws in the seventh, having squandered leads in their last two matches as they have fallen to defeat to Buckley Town and Colwyn Bay. Another loss for Aden Shannon’s side on Saturday would mean three straight league defeats for the first time since February 2018.

Caersws edged past Mountain earlier this season as Rhys Hesden’s brace inspired the Bluebirds to a 3-2 victory in August.

JD Cymru South – Afan Lido v Cwmbran Celtic (Friday, 7:30pm)

Afan Lido and Cwmbran Celtic both currently sit in the JD Cymru South relegation zone, so crucial points are up for grabs when the two sides face off at Princess Margaret Way on Friday night.

Lido sit bottom of the table with just one league win to their name all season, with Garry Taylor overseeing away defeats to Trethomas Bluebirds and Llantwit Major either side of a goalless draw at home to Trefelin since he was appointed manager last month.

Celtic, who have won just once away from home in the league in 2024, have slipped to 14th in the table following three straight losses to Pontypridd United, Ammanford and Llanelli Town.

Lido defeated Celtic 2-1 in the first meeting between the two sides last season, but goals from Tom Meechan and Alex Bonthron saw Celtic gain revenge with a 2-0 victory later in the campaign.
