Caernarfon climbed into the top six in the JD Cymru Premier with a crucial 3-2 home win over Barry Town United on Saturday afternoon.
Barry took the lead in the 25th minute when Mikey George scored his first league since 2019 with cross-turned-shot that beat Hari Thomas, but the visitors were reduced to 10 men nine minutes later when Josh Yorwerth brought down Adam Davies in the box.
Louis Lloyd stepped up to score the resulting penalty and then converted from the spot again to complete the turnaround just before half-time after he had been fouled by Callum Sainty.
Barry were back on the terms six minutes into the second half when Ben Margetson’s volley deflected into the bottom corner, but Caernarfon’s man advantage eventually showed as they found a winning goal in the 82ndminute. Matty Jones was the scorer, lashing home superbly from the edge of the box. The two sides are now level on 28 points, with 18 games played each.
Cardiff Met moved up to third in the table with a 2-0 home win over Flint Town United on Saturday afternoon.
The game looked set to finish goalless until Met finally broke the deadlock in the 83rd minute, when Joel Edwards laid the ball off to Ryan Reynolds on the edge of the box and he rifled a fierce strike past Jack Flint.
The lead was doubled five minutes later when Charlie Wright broke away down the left hand side and squared the ball into the box, which Flint defender Mikey Burke turned into his own net as he slid in to intercept.
In the JD Cymru South, Trefelin staged a stunning late comeback to win 4-3 against Newport City at Ynys Park on Friday night.
The game was level at half-time after Trefelin full-back Kavan O’Leary cancelled out Calum Bateman’s opener for Newport City, but the Steelmen scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the second half – through Louis Phillips and Bateman – to seemingly take control of the encounter.
It remained 3-1 to Newport City until the 83rd minute when Cian Goldsworthy pulled a goal back for Trefelin and then Andy Hill’s side were level three minutes later through 16-year-old substitute Dylan Adey. The hosts completed a remarkable turnaround in the third minute of stoppage time when Kori Parker found the net to steal a memorable three points.
Llandudno made it three consecutive wins in the JD Cymru North with a 2-0 victory away at Ruthin Town on Friday night.
Mark Cadwallader scored both goals for the Seasiders, heading in from Harvey Bennett’s corner in the first half before producing a superb strike after the break, as they climbed up to eighth in the table.
Mid-Wales duo Penrhyncoch and Guilsfield shared the points in a 1-1 draw at Cae Baker on Saturday afternoon.
Roosters veteran Geoff Kellaway opened the scoring in just the sixth minute on his first league start of the season, but Jamie Hyne found an equaliser for Guilsfield with 77 minutes on the clock.
